Also, if the mom’s been fucked up and is in the hospital, how would the person know the secret code word? Maybe the mom’s in a coma. So that little girl is going to run home and huddle in an empty house for days now.  (In that scenario, I also like to pretend that the house is haunted by some terrible j-horror creature like that little boy in The Grudge.)
