Each year, I try to do a birthday article.\u00a0 And, while there\u2019s much to consider this year<\/a>, I find myself somewhat uninspired in the \u201cstate of the Nacho\u201d department.<\/p>\n

Of course, these days, I should be looking forward instead of reviewing the past.\u00a0 That\u2019s one of those wonderful things about a springtime birthday.\u00a0 You can entertain the illusion of renewal and rebirth.<\/p>\n


\nBut it just seems so dull looking down the barrel of my late 30\u2019s.\u00a0 I\u2019ll devolve into tangents about the stock market and buying property.\u00a0 You don\u2019t want to hear about that.\u00a0 And reviewing my frame of mind? You\u2019ve heard too much of that!\u00a0 No, it\u2019s been a quiet year. I\u2019ve landed a hot girlfriend, I got back to long-form writing<\/a>, and decided that I should turn drinking into a hobby.\u00a0 I pissed off slow-witted yuppies<\/a> in my home town and I\u2019ve moved into a place where kids don\u2019t spend 14 hours in the parking lot trying to smash in a TV set with a tree branch. The world is\u2026 Well, pretty good.\u00a0 I think.\u00a0 Maybe.\u00a0 Oh god\u2026<\/p>\n

So, let\u2019s see. How boring.\u00a0 Instead of talking more about infused vodka and quiet Saturday nights in suburbia, let\u2019s go ahead and do the article archives thing and review all the past birthday posts.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s where I was last year.<\/a>\u00a0 Which is actually about the same as what I\u2019m writing right now.<\/p>\n

I was obviously a little drunk two years ago.<\/a><\/p>\n

Three years ago, I spent my birthday loaded on Oxy and immobilized in a lounge chair.\u00a0 That was the year of the brain surgery.<\/a><\/p>\n

A year before that, I was getting ready to head over to the UK<\/a> where I would experience a massive pain episode that would result in almost a year\u2019s worth of operations and missed work.<\/p>\n

When I turned 31<\/a>, I was in Decatur, GA, covered in gin, and being very out of place in a rough and rowdy lesbian bar.<\/p>\n

GS has been around since April of 2001 (it was \u201cDirty Freaks\u201d in that first year), but I\u2019m afraid I\u2019ve lost all the birthday articles from the previous incarnation, so I decided to dig through my harddrive and see what I could find.\u00a0 Here\u2019s 2003.<\/a><\/p>\n

And here\u2019s 2002.<\/a> I just skimmed through that one.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know what the fuck was wrong with me.<\/p>\n

For my birthday in 2001, this site was only a month old.\u00a0 We didn\u2019t really have our sea legs yet, so the first month was mainly a weird collection of crazy emails and hopeless ranting.\u00a0 For my birthday, I decided to go to Spain.\u00a0 With a home-made CMS that didn\u2019t much take to pre-programming, I didn\u2019t think to put together a birthday article.\u00a0 But, when I returned on May 23rd, here\u2019s what I posted<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
