The serials project.\u00a0 Ten to twelve thousand words a month, without an outline or any focused idea on the plot.\u00a0 The goal is to get into the habit of writing the long form, but it\u2019s also something of an experiment.\u00a0 I\u2019ve long believed in \u201corganic writing.\u201d\u00a0 That is \u2013 writing comes from some untapped and uncontrollable part of the brain.\u00a0 You are born with it, you are compelled to do it, and the only way to be a successful professional is to combine the writing demon with a mind capable of understanding the fundamentals of business and marketing.<\/p>\n
This is not about being professional, though.\u00a0 This is GS.\u00a0 I\u2019m just fucking around.<\/p>\n
\nI approach each project with a title and the names of four chapters.\u00a0 Each chapter must stop at the 3000 word mark, no matter what.\u00a0 So the challenge is to go with the freeform writing style, but then not get lost in tangents.\u00a0 Everything has to wrap up by the end of the act.<\/p>\n
So far, it\u2019s been a thrill to sit down and let the story go the way it wants to.\u00a0 Though as far as readability\u2026 I don\u2019t know. There can be some bumpy roads at times.<\/p>\n
All that said, “The Haunting of Romney Wood” is an old idea.\u00a0 After The Blair Witch Project<\/em>, I found myself thinking \u2013 what if those fucking kids had manned up?\u00a0 Burned down the witch house, stalked the woods with a shotgun, burned the weirdo grotto\u2026 What if the kids freaked out and caught the witch \u2013 or whatever \u2013 off guard?<\/p>\n
