{"id":56,"date":"2008-04-07T09:22:34","date_gmt":"2008-04-07T14:22:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greatsociety.org\/?p=56"},"modified":"2018-10-31T15:19:56","modified_gmt":"2018-10-31T19:19:56","slug":"welcome-to-nacholand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greatsociety.org\/?p=56","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to Nacholand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I\u2019ve recently become fascinated with the idea of living on the ocean, thanks to an entry at <a href=\"http:\/\/weburbanist.com\/2008\/03\/09\/5-floating-utopia-and-ocean-city-projects-from-seafaring-condos-to-to-oceanic-micronations\/\" target=\"_blank\">Weburbanist<\/a>.<span>  <\/span>Permanent residences are currently available on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboardtheworld.com\/index.aspx?pageID=1\" target=\"_blank\">The World<\/a>, but it\u2019s sort of a lark.<span>  <\/span>\u201cVacation residences,\u201d they\u2019re called, even though there are long-term live-aboards.<span>  <\/span>So it\u2019s kind of like a floating time-share village.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><!--more--><br \/>\nWeburbanist discusses the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freedomship.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Freedom Ship project<\/a>, which is a little touch of <em>Snow Crash<\/em>, I think.<span>  <\/span>Though the Freedom Ship people need to work on their advertising. Saying up front that \u201cit is actually nothing more than a big barge\u201d doesn\u2019t quite work. <span> <\/span>Barges transport trash.<span>  <\/span>I want to live on a ship, motherfuckers!\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The cost for living on the barge, which, according to the front page of their site, will hug the shore-line on a year\u2019s-long round the world cruise, is fairly reasonable.<span>  <\/span>2.5 million for some small suite of apartments?<span>  <\/span>Pricey?<span>  <\/span>Well, you\u2019re constantly on the move, you\u2019re on Orgy Ship, there\u2019s a school, a hospital, a casino, and a 100 acre park.<span>  <\/span>That\u2019s good living.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">We\u2019ll not mention that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freedomship.com\/freedomship\/contact\/contact.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">stock photo on the investor page<\/a> brings to mind Al-Qaeda, because that\u2019s racist.<span>  <\/span>And I\u2019m not racist.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">So, Orgy Ship is funded by Muslim extremists operating out of <st1 w:st=\"on\"><\/st1><st1 w:st=\"on\">Sarasota<\/st1>.<span>  <\/span>On board will be 40,000 full-time residents.<span>  <\/span>With staff and crew, 60,000 souls all together.<span>  <\/span>There\u2019s no mention on their page, but that\u2019s a great formula for \u201cmicronation\u201d status.<span>  <\/span>And since the folks behind Sealand are bugging out and selling it for over a billion dollars, micronation status isn\u2019t such a stupid thing to do.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">By the way, my favorite Micronation was run by Pepsi.<span>  <\/span>Russell Arundel, the founder and chairman of the Pepsi Cola Company, declared himself \u201cprince of princes\u201d and took over a tiny, \u201cuncharted\u201d island off the coast of <st1 w:st=\"on\"><\/st1><st1 w:st=\"on\">Nova Scotia<\/st1>, calling it the \u201cPrincipality of Outer Baldonia.\u201d<span>  <\/span>He actually had 69 subjects, as well, and became involved in a minor war with the <st1 w:st=\"on\">Soviet Union<\/st1>.<span>  <\/span>The Soviets backed down, but only after a challenge from the Outer Baldonian fishing fleet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Arundel\u2019s \u201cDeclaration of Independence\u201d began:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">That fishermen are a race alone. That fishermen are endowed with the following inalienable rights: The right to lie and be believed. The right of freedom from question, nagging, shaving, interruption, women, taxes, politics, war, monologues, care and inhibitions. The right to applause, vanity, flattery, praise and self-inflation. The right to swear, lie, drink, gamble and silence. The right to be noisy, boisterous, quiet, pensive, expensive and hilarious. The right to choose company and the right to be alone. The right to sleep all day and stay up all night.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Not kidding.<span>  <\/span>Look it up.<span>  <\/span>And remember it well whenever you drink a Pepsi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I\u2019ve always wanted to start a micronation.<span>  <\/span>But none of this passive loophole stuff like Sealand.<span>  <\/span>I want to go to the next level \u2013 Start a micronation 1776 style.<span>  <\/span>Small volunteer army, strike against the weak points, fade into the Pine Barrens, terror attacks on supply lines, hide in the swamp, mass murder on Christmas morning.<span>  <\/span>If it\u2019s good enough for the US of A, it\u2019s good enough for Nacholand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Don\u2019t laugh.<span>  <\/span>I\u2019m fighting for <em>your<\/em> freedom.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve recently become fascinated with the idea of living on the ocean, thanks to an entry at Weburbanist.
