{"id":304,"date":"2009-02-08T10:53:00","date_gmt":"2009-02-08T15:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greatsociety.org\/?p=304"},"modified":"2018-10-31T08:58:23","modified_gmt":"2018-10-31T12:58:23","slug":"the-latest-book-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greatsociety.org\/?p=304","title":{"rendered":"The Latest Book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oh my god!\u00a0 I think my brain is dead.\u00a0 But I did it \u2013 our<a href=\"http:\/\/richardcurrey.com\/fatallight.html\" target=\"_blank\"> latest book<\/a> hit the printer on Friday morning, and now I just have to sit back, drink vodka, and wait for the proofs\u2026<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Though I\u2019m always convinced everything will fuck up in some horrible way, so I tend to sit at work with my head on my desk making wounded animal sounds until the proofs arrive.\u00a0 And, so far, they\u2019ve only been wrong once (with three books).\u00a0 So that\u2019s good.\u00a0 Right?\u00a0 I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a mad rush to get everything to the distributor by March 9th.\u00a0 Will I?\u00a0 I don\u2019t know.\u00a0 I have no idea what\u2019s happening.\u00a0 About three years ago I closed my eyes, held my breath, and then jumped into the pit that leads to Pellucidar.<\/p>\n<p>Though the pre-orders for this latest title are encouraging (they\u2019ve outstripped the preorders for all the previous books), I have a sort of hopeless, helpless, haunted, hunted feeling about all of this.\u00a0 Publishing is kind of like giving every homeless child on the planet $1000&#8230;and then expecting it to change their lives for the better from that point onward.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve come to think of it as an addiction.\u00a0 It&#8217;s ruined me financially, and it&#8217;ll take me years to dig out of this hole, and yet I&#8217;m thinking about ways to manage the next book.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s\u2026insane.\u00a0 But if I know it\u2019s insane then it isn\u2019t.\u00a0 Right?<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, save me from living in a converted Dumpster and <a href=\"http:\/\/richardcurrey.com\/order_fatal_light.html\" target=\"_blank\">pre-order the book today!<\/a>\u00a0 And pre-order it online, not at a bookstore.\u00a0 I\u2019ll get to that later.\u00a0 If I can find that 10 page article I wrote complaining about how bookstores are the enemy of publishing, authors, writing, creativity, and the Human race.\u00a0 I wrote that on the bus home while stuck in snow-bound traffic, then drunkenly typed it in, then saved it with a stupid filename.\u00a0 Since I do that often, it\u2019s a matter of digging through all the stupid filenames I have on my computer.\u00a0 Or is it on my flashdrive?\u00a0 Or my work computer?\u00a0 Who am I?!<\/p>\n<p>(If you hate buying shit online, then <a href=\"http:\/\/richardcurrey.com\/events.html\" target=\"_blank\">come to the party on April 5th<\/a> and buy the book directly from me.
