My landline dies \u2013 no jacks in the house are working \u2013 so I put in a service call to Verizon. They say, oh, okay, looks like there\u2019s a line error. We\u2019ll send someone out on Friday to fix it. Great.<\/p>\n
Today (Thursday) at 8:30am, as I\u2019m commuting to work, I get a call.<\/p>\n
Verizon tech: Hey. This is John. I\u2019m outside your place now.<\/p>\n
Me: Um\u2026 You were scheduled for Friday morning, right?<\/p>\n
Tech: Yeah. But they gave the call to me today.<\/p>\n
Me: Oh. Well. I\u2019m not there.<\/p>\n
Tech: I know! Think you can get here in a few minutes?<\/p>\n
Me: No. But I can get there Friday for, you know, the appointment that you scheduled.<\/p>\n
Tech: Oh. I\u2026can\u2019t make it here Friday.<\/p>\n
Me: Of course not.<\/p>\n
Tech: So you can\u2019t make it today?<\/p>\n
Me: I\u2019m at work.<\/p>\n
Tech: You can\u2019t get here in a few minutes?<\/p>\n
Me: I had to go through hell to get time off tomorrow to meet you.<\/p>\n
Tech: You can\u2019t change that to now?<\/p>\n
Me: I\u2019m an hour away. How far away are you from your home right now? Could you get there in a few minutes?<\/p>\n
Tech: Well\u2026what\u2019s the problem?<\/p>\n
Me: The jacks are all dead. Your people said it was a line problem.<\/p>\n
Tech: Oh! We don\u2019t do jacks. That\u2019s electrician stuff.<\/p>\n
Me: \u201cElectrician stuff\u201d?<\/p>\n
Tech: Yeah. And there might be a charge. So tell you what\u202680% of the time, the problem is outside, and 60% of the time the problem is inside. So I\u2019ll look at the outside and see if I can fix it. If not, you can call and reschedule.<\/p>\n
Me: How about I reschedule now for tomorrow? Say\u2026during the appointment already scheduled?<\/p>\n
Tech: I\u2019m\u2026here now, though.<\/p>\n
Me: Yes, well. You\u2019re a day early. Stick to the schedule.<\/p>\n
Tech: I probably can\u2019t do anything anyway.<\/p>\n
Me: Electrician stuff?<\/p>\n
Tech: Yeah.
