{"id":250,"date":"2008-11-03T07:10:24","date_gmt":"2008-11-03T12:10:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greatsociety.org\/?p=250"},"modified":"2018-10-31T09:29:01","modified_gmt":"2018-10-31T13:29:01","slug":"nacho%e2%80%99s-guide-for-voting-in-montgomery-county-maryland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greatsociety.org\/?p=250","title":{"rendered":"Nacho\u2019s guide for voting in Montgomery County, Maryland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Maryland is a great state.\u00a0 The Democrats are going to carry it, so you can do whatever you want.\u00a0 But, since you\u2019re an irresponsible monster, I\u2019ll still tell you what to do.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s go over the ballot!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nFirst up is President.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure everyone\u2019s voting for Obama but, if you can\u2019t bring yourself to vote for a straw man president, why not try out some of the others?\u00a0 If you want to vote for somebody who really is black, then the Green Party is putting up comically violent Cynthia McKinney.\u00a0 I\u2019ve found it odd that the media attacks conformist Michelle Obama as an \u201cangry black woman\u201d when the quintessential, right-hook-throwing angry black woman is also on the ballot.<\/p>\n<p>But maybe voting Green is a bit much for you?\u00a0 Or, perhaps, you really are a racist.\u00a0 In that case, there\u2019s Bob Barr.\u00a0 Also, for my conservative friends, Barr is your only choice.\u00a0 If you actually vote for McCain, then you need to have yourself checked out.\u00a0 Secretly, I kind of like Barr and am debating a vote in that direction myself.<\/p>\n<p>The comedy option, if you just want to be different, is Chuck Baldwin for the Constitution Party, whoever the fuck they are.<\/p>\n<p>Then, finally, if you just can\u2019t stomach any of them, write in Nacho Sasha.\u00a0 Which is what I\u2019m actually going to do.<\/p>\n<p>I moved into a new District, so I no longer have to worry about voting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greatsociety.org\/?p=32\" target=\"_blank\">against Van Hollen<\/a>.\u00a0 Thank god.\u00a0 I hate that cunt.\u00a0 So if you\u2019re in Maryland\u2019s 8th District, then vote for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clarkforcongress.net\/library.cfm?aId=4D357357-C298-58F6-0D7213892163C19E\" target=\"_blank\">Gordon Clark<\/a> instead of Van Hollen.\u00a0 Please.\u00a0 I beg you.\u00a0 I\u2019ll send you free books if you do.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, if you kill Van Hollen for me, I\u2019ll pay your legal fees.<\/p>\n<p>I get to happily vote for Donna Edwards, of the do-nothing party.\u00a0 Uh\u2026 Democrats, I mean.\u00a0 Though I might vote for <a href=\"http:\/\/lincecum.us\/2008\/issues\/priorities.html\" target=\"_blank\">Lincecum<\/a> because he has a ridiculous name and he has no real platform.\u00a0 I love the comparison chart at that link.\u00a0 Is he really working for Donna Edwards?\u00a0 Lincecum will do nothing.\u00a0 Peter James will do nothing.\u00a0 Edwards will change the world for the greater good.\u00a0 VOTE LINCECUM!<\/p>\n<p>Um\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Then there are all those judges and BOE people who, in Maryland, run largely (and suspiciously) unopposed. We have two people running for the two slots on judicial circuit 6.\u00a0 Then we have the two court of special appeals at large people \u2013 Robert Zamoch and Deborah Eyler.\u00a0 We get to vote yes or no for continuance in office.\u00a0 I always vote no on questions like that because, seriously, keep these fuckers on their toes.\u00a0 Everybody always votes yes so, consequently, we\u2019ve got people we don\u2019t know in office for 40 years.\u00a0 How about we shake them up a bit?\u00a0 So vote no with extreme malice.<\/p>\n<p>For the BOE people, I tend to do what the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcea.nea.org\" target=\"_blank\">Montgomery County Education Association<\/a> tells me to do.\u00a0 So Laura Berthiaume, Chris Barclay (who is unopposed) and Phil Kauffman.<\/p>\n<p>We have four questions.\u00a0 One is about early voting.\u00a0 Vote no on that because I agree with the 2006 ruling that it\u2019s unconstitutional.\u00a0 Question two is slot machines \u2013 asking us to allow 15,000 slot machines in Maryland\u2019s poorest counties, and all couched in language that makes it sound like slot machines are the Messiah.\u00a0 Vote against that retarded shit.\u00a0 I mean, really.\u00a0 Vote for cocaine dens in Maryland\u2019s black communities!<\/p>\n<p>The two remaining questions are the usual witchery with taxes and land use stuff.\u00a0 If you own property you care about question A, which repeals the County\u2019s right to use money to dump sewage on your front yard.\u00a0 Question B I\u2019m against.\u00a0 It\u2019s property tax stuff and doesn\u2019t matter to me, but it\u2019s vaguely undemocratic in that it asks to change the County Council\u2019s voting scheme regarding taxes \u2013 if the amendment passes, then property tax questions will require a unanimous vote instead of the current 7 out of 9 votes required for such changes.\u00a0 So, basically, it\u2019s an amendment that empowers the minority and pisses on the majority.\u00a0 Wrong country, assholes!<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s it!\u00a0 In and out, three minutes tops.\u00a0 And four hours in line.<\/p>\n<p>Also, you can follow the election in the GS forums.\u00a0 The normal, responsible thread is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greatsociety.org\/forums\/index.php\/topic,3880.0.html\" target=\"_blank\">right here<\/a>.\u00a0 But I\u2019ve coerced a friend to spend the day hauling trash out of my storage shed, then come back to my place for Britcoms and movies, eventually tuning into CNN late evening to watch Bob Barr win in a landslide because I mentioned him here.\u00a0 That thread is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greatsociety.org\/forums\/index.php\/topic,3886.0.html\" target=\"_blank\">right here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Though I\u2019ll be drinking heavily and posting in both threads, so I\u2019m sure everything will be duplicated.<\/p>\n<p>Or maybe Comcast will cut off my internet because I\u2019m very close to my 250 gig cap.\u00a0 And, yes, it&#8217;s all porn.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maryland is a great state.\u00a0 The Democrats are going to carry it, so you can do whatever you want.\u00a0 But, since you\u2019re an irresponsible monster, I\u2019ll still tell you what to do.
