Of course, there\u2019s also the war in Georgia.\u00a0 We don\u2019t have official names for wars anymore, which is disappointing, but most parties seem to have settled on \u201cThe South Ossetia War.\u201d\u00a0 I think we should go with \u201cThe War of Russian Fuckery against Georgia (NOT THE STATE!!).\u201d<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t care how worldly you are, the whole Georgia thing is confusing.\u00a0 Russian troops push deeper into Georgia!\u00a0 My first reaction is to stand up and scream:\u00a0 \u201cWolverines!\u201d<\/p>\n
Anyway, the war\u2019s a big yawn.\u00a0 The Russians bombed and murdered a few thousand civilians because they claimed the Georgian\u2019s were killing civilians, then they all signed a peace treaty that pretty much returned everything to status quo.\u00a0 Which, depending on how you play Europa Universalis II, counts as a failure for Russia.\u00a0 Now the revolt risk is up, they\u2019ve spent all their ducats on new troops, and they didn\u2019t even gain those two little core provinces.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, as Georgia was panicking at home, they were doing well in the Olympics abroad.\u00a0 They scored themselves a gold medal in Greco-Roman Wrestling.\u00a0 They are, after all, closer to Greece than the Chinese.\u00a0 There is some debate, though.\u00a0 We\u2019re not sure Georgia won because the Chinese government has replaced all non-Chinese athletes with CGI cartoon characters, so we don\u2019t really know who\u2019s winning or losing.\u00a0 But Georgia was the best guess after the CGI character squeaked and flew into the air and circled Beijing a few times.<\/p>\n
Georgia also scored a bronze medal in the women\u2019s 10 meter air pistol competition.\u00a0 There\u2019s quite a bit wrong with that\u2026 Air pistol?\u00a0 10 meters?\u00a0 And only a bronze?\u00a0 My cousin in Parkersburg can take out a can at 20 meters with an air pistol while drunk out of his mind on my other cousin\u2019s \u201cspecial mix\u201d (which, I think, is Bailey\u2019s, Maker\u2019s Mark, moonshine, and triple sec.\u00a0 Yes, it\u2019s vile.).\u00a0 Oddly enough, the same cousin cannot hit a cow with a shotgun from a moving car while sober.\u00a0 Also, if you\u2019re ever in Parkersburg, never give my cousin a ride.\u00a0 Word to the wise.<\/p>\n
I looked up the specifics on the 10 meter air pistol.\u00a0 It\u2019s a three pound air pistol, and the women\u2019s competition gets 40 shots in 75 minutes at a half-inch target.\u00a0 In the finals, you get 10 shots, with 75 seconds for each shot.\u00a0 My cousin sort of shoots from the hip in three seconds while also doing a shot of Jager.<\/p>\n
