Cust: I would like to subscribe to the (journal).<\/p>\n

Me: Okay, we can do that for you.<\/p>\n

Cust: How long is the subscription for?<\/p>\n

Me: It\u2019ll be a 12 month subscription.<\/p>\n

Cust: And the cost?<\/p>\n

Me: The cost is $50.<\/p>\n

Cust: Twelve months\u2026that seems like a long time.<\/p>\n

Me: Um\u2026 Well\u2026<\/p>\n

Cust: A very long time!<\/p>\n

Me: Okay.<\/p>\n

Cust: I do not think I have the time to read this journal.<\/p>\n

Cust: I am a very busy person!<\/p>\n

Cust: I certainly do not have the time to read a journal!<\/p>\n

Me: Okay. That\u2019s fine. So you do not want to subscribe, then?<\/p>\n

Cust: Oh! It is so hard! Yes! But I don\u2019t have the time! What do you think?<\/p>\n

Me: I think you should subscribe to several journals.<\/p>\n

Cust: (silence)<\/p>\n

Me: It\u2019s important that we make time for ourselves.<\/p>\n

Cust: Fucker. (hangs up)<\/p>\n

More precious time wasted\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Customer: How much are the dues for a new Associate?<\/p>\n

Me: You\u2019ll start out at $69 and, after four years, move up to $207.<\/p>\n

Cust: And, if there\u2019s a year where I can\u2019t pay, am I able to just skip that year?<\/p>\n

Me: Well\u2026 yes.\u00a0 But you won\u2019t be an active member if you do so.<\/p>\n

Cust: But it\u2019s not like you\u2019ll force me to pay even if I can\u2019t?<\/p>\n

Me: No\u2026we won\u2019t force you to pay against your will.<\/p>\n

Cust: Are you sure?\u00a0 Some places do.<\/p>\n

Me: We don\u2019t.<\/p>\n

Cust: That\u2019s what those other places said.<\/p>\n

Me: Hmmm\u2026 (Refusing to take the bait.)<\/p>\n

Cust: I wish all of this information was written down somewhere so I didn\u2019t have to waste time with a phone call.<\/p>\n

Me: Oh, well, it is.\u00a0 You can go to our webpage and all the details are right there.<\/p>\n

Cust: I don\u2019t have the time to do that!<\/p>\n

Me: Oh.\u00a0 Okay.<\/p>\n

Cust: My time is very precious.<\/p>\n

Me: Yes, ma\u2019am.<\/p>\n

Cust: So I do rather resent having to waste time on the phone with you.<\/p>\n

Me: I\u2019m sorry, ma\u2019am.<\/p>\n

Cust: I also think it\u2019s absurd that this information isn\u2019t posted somewhere.<\/p>\n

Me: Where do you think it should be posted, if not online?<\/p>\n

Cust: I don\u2019t know! That\u2019s your job! (hangs up)<\/p>\n

Hi Asshole,<\/p>\n

Thanks for your quick response; you get an “A” for effort.
\nBut alas, you get a “C-” for customer care.<\/p>\n

Having worked at HP for 18 years, I know a few things about taking good
\ncare of customers. When we published a reference manual that had errors,
\nwe would post the corrections ASAP, but (this is the important part)
\nwe also provided free replacements upon request.<\/p>\n

We also cleaned up any messes that we caused. I don’t expect you to
\nchange my grade for me, but a new manual would be appreciated.<\/p>\n
