Cust: And this ISBN? (reads another ISBN)<\/p>\n

Me: That\u2019s (completely different title).<\/p>\n

Cust: Are they two different books?<\/p>\n

Me: Um\u2026yes.<\/p>\n

Cust: I\u2019m confused.<\/p>\n

Me: Well\u2026what\u2019s confusing you?<\/p>\n

Cust: I don\u2019t understand how they\u2019re two different books.<\/p>\n

Me: Well, they are two different titles\u2026<\/p>\n

Cust: Are they?<\/p>\n

Me: Yes. I just gave you the two different titles.<\/p>\n

Cust: I have an instructor who wants these books for her class.<\/p>\n

Me: Okay.<\/p>\n

Cust: (silence)<\/p>\n

Me: So\u2026would you like to order them today?<\/p>\n

Cust: I don\u2019t know if she wants both.<\/p>\n

Me: Ah. Okay.<\/p>\n

Cust: (silence)<\/p>\n

Me: So\u2026 No order today, then?<\/p>\n

Cust: Does she want both?<\/p>\n

Me: I\u2019m\u2026afraid I can\u2019t answer for her.<\/p>\n

Cust: But what do you think?<\/p>\n

Me: I don\u2019t know the instructor or the class. Why don\u2019t you ask her?<\/p>\n

Cust: Oh\u2026okay.<\/p>\n

This is a Monty Python skit, right?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cust: I called a couple of hours ago and spoke to someone about an order. I\u2019m wondering if the issue was resolved.<\/p>\n

Me: Okay\u2026 Well, who was it that you spoke with?<\/p>\n

Cust: What?<\/p>\n

Me: Who did you speak with?<\/p>\n

Cust: I don\u2019t know what you mean.<\/p>\n

Me: When you called, who did you speak with?<\/p>\n

Cust: What?<\/p>\n

Me: Who were you working with?<\/p>\n

Cust: I don\u2019t understand you.<\/p>\n

Me: Maybe I can help you.<\/p>\n

Cust: No. The lady I spoke with has all the information.<\/p>\n

Me: Okay, and who was that?<\/p>\n

Cust: What?<\/p>\n

Me: Who was that lady?<\/p>\n

Cust: Which lady?<\/p>\n

Me: The one you spoke with.<\/p>\n

Cust: I don\u2019t know! A lady! A LAAADY!<\/p>\n

Customer: So we have to enter each desk copy request individually online?<\/p>\n

Me: Yes.<\/p>\n

Cust: I can’t send you a list?<\/p>\n

Me: No, they need to be entered online.<\/p>\n

Cust: Can I do it on the phone?<\/p>\n

Me: No, they need to be entered online.<\/p>\n

Cust: But there are 30 instructors!<\/p>\n

Me: I’m sorry, but we need each one individually entered online.<\/p>\n

Cust: Can I mail them in?<\/p>\n

Me: No, they need to be entered online.<\/p>\n

Cust: That seems like an awful lot of paperwork.<\/p>\n

Me: Um… I’m sorry?<\/p>\n

Cust: To do them online. It’s e-waste.<\/p>\n

Me: Well, there’s no paperwork if you do them online. Wouldn\u2019t that mean\u2026?<\/p>\n

Cust: There are 30 instructors!<\/p>\n

Me: Yes, all entered online. It saves paper, actually. It’s a waste if you fax or mail the requests, right?<\/p>\n

Cust: Obviously you don\u2019t understand the concept of e-waste! (hangs up)<\/p>\n

Cust: Are you based in Washington, DC?<\/p>\n

Me: Yes.<\/p>\n

Cust: That’s really neat! I think it’s neat that the Statue of Liberty is open again. I had a great time there before 9\/11! Shame it\u2019s gone now\u2026<\/p>\n

Me: (stunned silence)<\/p>\n

Cust: Well\u2026 I wanted to place a book order.<\/p>\n

Me: Okay\u2026<\/p>\n
