{"id":100,"date":"2008-05-30T14:05:44","date_gmt":"2008-05-30T19:05:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greatsociety.org\/?p=100"},"modified":"2018-10-31T12:49:20","modified_gmt":"2018-10-31T16:49:20","slug":"a-friday-afternoon-attack-on-some-girl-i-dont-know-and-her-bosses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greatsociety.org\/?p=100","title":{"rendered":"A Friday Afternoon Attack on Some Girl I Don&#8217;t Know (and her bosses)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I can be found, quite often, defending DC.<span>  <\/span>Born and raised, so you can\u2019t blame me.<span>  <\/span>But, sometimes, it can be a little difficult.<span>  <\/span>I point a finger now at the <em>Washington City Paper<\/em>, our alleged \u201calternative\u201d weekly written by ultra-snooty white suburbanites who can\u2019t quite spell DC.<span>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Now, I know, a free paper.<span>  <\/span>What do you expect?<span>  <\/span>I expect some fucking on the edge shit that either takes into account the problems of poor DC and\/or manages to entertain in some minor way.<span>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">So when you start off hating something, you should probably never subscribe to their blog.<span>  <\/span>Today, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtoncitypaper.com\/blogs\/citydesk\/2008\/05\/30\/random-thought-about-national-party-conventions\/\" target=\"_blank\">this came across the magical face of my Google Reader.<\/a><span><\/span>  In which brain-dead Ruth Samuelson asks if DC has ever hosted a political convention.<span>  <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtoncitypaper.com\/blogs\/citydesk\/2008\/05\/30\/random-thought-about-national-party-conventions\/#comment-160952\" target=\"_blank\">Someone hit her with Wikipedia<\/a> in the comments section right away, so I do have hope in my fellow Washingtonian.<span>  <\/span>Because a one second search would have provided <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_Democratic_National_Conventions\" target=\"_blank\">these<\/a>  here <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_Republican_National_Conventions\" target=\"_blank\">results<\/a>.<span>  <\/span>Yee-haw. <span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">But the <em>City Paper<\/em> writers don\u2019t have to concern themselves with actually, you know, looking up facts that are readily available to their reading public.<span>  <\/span>It\u2019s all the art of pseudo-journalism.<span>  <\/span>The question is the hook for that particular drunken blog entry.<span>  <\/span>I know what Samuelson\u2019s trying to do.<span>  <\/span>It\u2019s a classic example of writing that I haven\u2019t seen since, oh, my high school newspaper.<span>  <\/span>Which is about where we\u2019re at with the <em>City Paper<\/em> these days.<span>  <\/span>Is there enough parking for seniors?<span>  <\/span>No!<span>  <\/span>Because\u2026like\u2026totally not.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">By the way, I love this comment of hers:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2026we already have a massive convention center. And a good transportation system. And plenty of hotels. I think we\u2019re good to go.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o> <\/o><br \/>\nMy dear Ruth, we have a shit transportation system that\u2019s so poorly planned I sometimes wonder if I\u2019m responsible.<span>  <\/span>Did I actually spearhead the initial Washington Metro designs while travelling through time and drinking absolutely anything anyone handed me for days on end?<span>  <\/span>Perhaps topping off the final shot (if you can say such a thing when filtering Sterno through a gym sock) with a little bit of crack.<span>  <\/span>Nacho Sasha\u2019s single track plan is a winner! Nacho Sasha\u2019s inability to imagine or plan for a population larger than 400,000 is amazing!<span>  <\/span>Nacho Sasha\u2019s idea to dig a massive network of tunnels and <em>not<\/em> motherfucking waterproof them blows my mind! <span> <\/span>Now get back to pumping.<span>  <\/span>No, I don\u2019t care if there\u2019s a train engulfed in flames hurtling towards you.<span>  <\/span>We only lose a handful of track workers a year, so we\u2019re fine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I can be found, quite often, defending DC.
