Google Everything

Anyone futz with this yet?  It should be a new tab in your Gmail window... I haven't quite figured it all out yet, but it's already a hell of a lot more useful than Google Wave.

Yeah...it makes more sense than Wave.  But, hell, it's just Twitter.  So...whatever.

True, only I think it's better than Twitter because you can actually have a conversation.

Yeah, that's a nice touch.  For me, it's a bit hard since there's a business Gmail, and a GS gmail, and my personal Gmail... So, unlike Twitter, I have to log in and out of various personas.  Plus, Gmail is blocked at work and Twitter isn't.  So... There we go.

But, I'm a Google fan.  So I'm all for it, regardless.

Yeah, well what excites me is the inevitable integration with my Droid.  I'm already using Latitude on the phone and it updates to Buzz, which is kind of neat.  I have a feeling Buzz might be a bit too intrusive, though.  It's a lot of personal information at everyone's fingertips.  Good thing I am always well behaved.

Yeah...I've already seen stuff marked as "private" or whatever -- frequent contacts only -- from folks that is, like, woah.  You're crazy.  Gmail has an eccentric idea of who my "frequent contacts" are.

Yeah... still, I like this Buzz stuff.  I have a feeling I will wind up using it quite a bit.

You know what's really scary?  Go to buzz.google.com on your Droid and let it find your location.  Then you can follow along with the private lives of all your neighbors!

Deactivate it now.
There will come a day for every man when he will relish the prospect of eating his own shit. That day has yet to come for me.

Deactivate it now.

It's...kind of addictive.  Most of the strangers are buzzing about traffic conditions, or just general street scene stuff.  I've started checking before the Metro pulls into Silver Spring to see if the road home is fucked up.

Yeah, seeing what people in your vicinity are buzzing about is neat.  This is way more functional than twitter.

You may not live to regret this decision.

Google's latest attempt to upstage FB:

Quote
Wow.  So Google just unveiled Google+ which looks to be one hell of an impressive social tool that may even stretch beyond what Facebook has been doing for the last few years.  Through this new service (which is invite-only at this time – sign up here), Google is preaching the idea that users want to have more control over what they are sharing and who can see it.  I would 100% agree to that.  We all have different pockets of friends, groups, drinking buddies, sports teams, etc. that don’t necessarily need to see everything in our lives.  With Google+, you get to pick and choose who sees what, and that’s a pretty big thing (check out this demo site).

The whole “project” has an impressive set of features such as +Circles, +Sparks, +Hangouts, +Mobile and +Huddle that all come together to make this, at least to me, the next big phase in social networking and sharing.  I think the big struggle now is to figure out how we can pry all of our friends from Facebook and get them into using something new and fresh.  I guess we would also need to make sure they continue to purchase Android phones as well, until this launches on that other platform.

I would switch over in a heartbeat to something like that. My biggest beef with FB is the difficulty in choosing what can be shared.
