wait...isn't November NaNoWriMo?

who wants to sign up with me and do it?  i know nacho's doing his "write one page then have a hard wank" a day.  i'm thinking now might be a better time than ever to write a novel in a month.  maybe i'll even just post it on GS as i go.  man, this could be kick ass.  it's not going to be coherent or streamlined, but i bet one of my notebook-ed ideas could provide me enough to hack out a 30,000 word novel in november.  i'll put a think on it.

Rowling is basically creating her own Facebook. (This is, by the way, the coming thing. Been reading a lot in the trades about creating "Facebook like communities" for popular books. Essentially exclusive, glorified fan pages.)

It seems that Rowling is intent on pursuing the life of the books within the Harry Potter community. While fans still might be treated to a Harry Potter encyclopedia, now there is a new way to learn more about the world they know and love.

In addition, Pottermore will also offer the Harry Potter books in ebook format, bringing Harry further into the digital world. You can register for a special challenge—one million lucky fans who beat it will receive the opportunity to try the site out as early as July 31st (Harry and Rowling’s birthday).

Catching up on the weekend's news... Looks like we're not too far away from a "reboot" of Harry Potter. Either a next generation at Hogwarts something or other... Or a prequel. More details will slowly emerge via Pottermore, and the project may take the form of a show or movie series and not books... But there's something buzzing down the publishing pipe.

This would be fine -- weird, slightly upsetting, but technically fine -- if King hadn't read a passage of Dr. Sleep at George Mason University recently, and it was all about -- and I shit you not -- vampires disguised as elderly retired people traveling the country in motor homes and campers. The video of the reading is above, but don't expect anything to tie it to The Shining in there -- it's not like they check into The Overlook Hotel at the end of the passage or anything. Nope, just vampires driving things with "Ask me about my grandkids!" bumper stickers. It's a horror story, all right, I'm just not sure King isn't part of the narrative here.
