Um...do we have a "they're killing black people" thread? Because the recent shit is amazing. And now they're boarding up downtown Bethesda (Friendship Heights was ransacked by several hundred looters last night). So starting to hit close to home.

One of my clients is on Pennsylvania Ave.  They barricaded the doors and won't be able to get back in for a few days.

So Bethesda is boarded up and the protesters are gathering at the library today across the street from our house.

We took a walk to Friendship Heights yesterday -- smashed windows, boarded up stores, glass all over the street, graffiti, pamphlets everywhere.

Yesterday was technically the start of the phase one reopening. but only one bar in Bethesda opened. The others are starting to board up against the protests. At that one bar last night, MCPD came by and told us to go home before the DC curfew kicked in at 7pm because "they're probably going to come up here again."

Apparently they also shut down the entire Metro system at 7pm, and Bowser stopped buses, taxi service, and Uber/Lyft service. If you were downtown, you were stuck in the sweeps -- lots of stories this morning about DC residents taking protesters in ahead of the sweeps.

They're out here. Half of the protests are "COVID is a lie" people, and there were very few masks at the Bethesda protest. Meanwhile, county councilors are being shouted off the stage and attacked at restaurants for holding back phase two. I'm more scared of those protesters than I am the BLM folks.

Half of Bethesda and adjoining burbs (right on the DC line) is boarded up now, with more boards going up every morning. Places that were open throughout the pandemic are now closed because of the protests. Lots of restaurants are under patio seating only during phase one, but the cops are telling them they have to take in their patios before sunset so no one has chairs and tables to throw through windows. This is resulting in the restaurants just giving up and closing, or sticking to pre-Phase One pickup/delivery only.

One of my clients, a restaurant in DC, got looted yesterday.  They caught it all on video.  I don't think they will release the video to the news but this is what I saw.  And before yous ask, I don't have the video file to upload.

At the time of the looting, 30 well dressed college age black men (you can clearly see faces in the video) climb through a broken window and steal all the liquor and wine bottles from the bar.

Now the catch.  1 minute before the looting a lone, completely masked, male walks by the restaurant and smashes the window...then keeps walking.  Taking nothing. 

The college kids take only the alcohol, leaving TV's, iPads, computers, etc.  They don't smash a several thousand dollar POS, or any thing else.  Clearly a crime of opportunity...if you see the video from a minute before the looting.  But if the video leaks of just the kids taking the alcohol...

Oh by the way...this is the only white owned restaurant on the block.

Second protest today. This one in Westbard, specifically about the Moses Cemetery. It and its now abandoned church are on the historic register and are the last of the black neighborhood left over from segregated Bethesda. They're tearing down the church, disinterring the bodies, and moving the cemetery to make way for a condo development.

This has been going on for about five years now, and it's been a powderkeg before. But now the full force of the DC protests are descending on the area at 5pm.
