Climate change is real and it’s a monster. No longer have we ‘proper seasons’ - December 2017 in Paris averaged 15°C instead of ~0°C... snow in April/May... floods in June.

It’s impossible to coordinate a seasonal wardrobe.

In terms of "not seeing the paradigm because we're in it," I think that only applies to stupid people. It's very obvious what's been going on for the last...not few years, not few decades, but 240 years. We're only now talking about it because, like bad doctors, we failed to diagnose the problem until the 1970s.

Frankly, I think we've had this coming for a long time. I'm all for the destruction of civilization! We're a wicked, awful race who has paved a road of bones and blood all in the name of same day shipping and streaming services.

Everybody do the 'Deep Adaptation.'

I've been on the "Civilization is doomed because of climate change" train for about two years now. Maybe less. It's all those photos and video of the Arctic and Antarctic ice shelf collapsing that did it, though even paying a modicum of attention to the science (and the lack of political response to it) is evidence enough to me that a vast sea change is underway. As I'm fond of saying, we're in the paradigm, so we can't see the paradigm.

I comfort myself by saying the really bad stuff, the Mad Max, Omega Man, PA bad stuff won't be something that needs dealt with until after I'm dead, but papers like the one in this article suggest otherwise.

Missus RC and I haven't made concrete plans but there's constant joking about the WV move being prep for the coming apocalypse. And even my colleagues just kind of shrug when climate change comes up in conversation in a "Well, I guess we lost this one" kind of way.

Anyway, this is a fun read.

I'd gladly head up our new cult.

Worth noting that -- as every farmer and construction worker who has dug up a cache of ancient coins and valuables will tell you -- every generation of the super-rich have been prepping for Doomsday on every continent for the last 8,000 years.

So if the 1% crowd is prepping for the end, I feel like I should actually be worried. Also, this is super Omega Man.

EDIT:This article is so long, GS wouldn't let me post it.

Humble suggestion: Let's start a lucrative apocalypse cult around this event. Who's in?

Our modern apocalypse (and, perhaps, apt for this thread) is fracking. And it's starting sooner than we feared:

Oklahoma shaken by strong earthquake causing 'significant' damage
The magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck close to the town of Cushing, damaging structures downtown and forcing police to evacuate some buildings

That's the second earthquake in the area. Both have been linked to fracking, and USGS has been warning (for...years, along with similar agencies from all around the world) that this is only the beginning. Forget the fact that fracking results in water-borne and airborne carcinogens -- we're going to get swallowed up by sinkholes before the cancer has a chance to kill this entire generation's fracking workers and neighboring communities in the next decade.
