So I bought seasons 1 and 2 the other week to help me recoup from this death cold I had.  The difference in those seasons and the later ones is amazing.

And Torri Higginson on NCIS this week makes me realize how much I liked her.  Though I still would have liked Picardo in there from the beginning....

Yeah, I'm still thinking about "Vegas."  What a great episode.

Just got the last two episodes into me.  You're right, a proper send off.  And "Vegas"...wow, I didn't want it to end.  Awesome stuff.

And...the end of Atlantis.  Enemy at the Gates

My pre-air has "temp visual effects" stamped on all the ship battle stuff and it's still awesome...so might watch this again when it broadcasts.

And not a prequel to the last episode.  After some ship battle wankery, we pick up where episode 19 left us.

This one is also a great finale in that it delivers all the traditional stuff -- SGC, a fully powered Atlantis, a Don Davis nod, and a high stakes showdown.

So I'm happy to say that the show gets a great send-off.  And a fresh beginning for the movies...

Episode 19.  Vegas

Having this as the penultimate episode actually kind of suits what the series should have been.  It's just terrific.  Dreamy, grittier than usual, and it's got a rocking classic rock/heavy metal soundtrack.  No Country for Old Men meets old school serial killer flicks meets an episode of Bones...meets Stargate

I started out thinking "Oh god...come on Stargate," and after 10 minutes I was hooked.  At 12 minutes in I wanted this episode to be the pilot for a spinoff series.

So here's the thing...this was filmed as the last episode, which would have been truly awesome.  But they've rejigged it to be more of an intro for episode 20.  Or maybe episode 20 is a prequel.  I'll find out shortly.  Either way, I have my fears.  If they had ended with this one, it would have single-handedly redeemed the franchise.  Because what a daring thing to do.

Has to be watched on a computer... But, yes, it's on my flash drive now.

Can you burn it to a disc and then we can watch it Friday?

Ah, savor the torture as Sci Fi stretches out the final two episodes over the next year, right?  I fully expect them to air 19 on Jan 2nd, then say hiatus before the finale until the summer.

No, let me watch them when they air here.  We'll discuss in January.

Well, sci-fi did it again.  While they stretch out the final two episodes into next year, they have aired everywhere else in the world.  So downloading them now.  Then I'll be able to put this Atlantis horror behind me a month early!

Sirharles -- want me to do a full report with spoilers on the finale?

Review of last night's episode:  My god, that girl was hot.

Review:  Let's rip off some really good SG-1 story lines and pass them off as ours.  But we're gonna put some incredibly hot chic in them.  Jesus!  She made me hurt.

Thank Christ!  Only two lousy episodes left.

Review of last night's episode:  My god, that girl was hot.

Edit:  Ah-ha!  I knew I'd seen her recently.  HIMYM.

God, this show has turned into classic Star Trek.  I called all those marines that came along on the mission as redshirts the moment Woolsey said "Take Major Lorne and a team along."

But...that's not really all that bad.  Watching three generally bloodless seasons of TNG reminds me that I kind of enjoyed the Redshirt Factor.  All the over-reaching morality is tempered by senseless death scenes because someone smells a flower or picks up a rock.

And Stargate redshirts are even better, because they exist to be eaten by nasty things.

So, overall, this last episode was acceptable.  In fact, compared to the last few weeks, it's pretty good.
