Here's a thread that's only thirteen years old.

Go back and read it actually. Some of the ideas are almost quaint, while in other ways this discussion was almost ominously prescient.

Anyway, somebody at Buzzfeed (a subsidiary of NBCUniversal) wrote a pretty good piece about the loss of the old internet that made me realize how important keeping GS alive may be. We don't often say "thanks" to Nacho for keeping it up, but "thanks." (It also touches on all the crazy migration issues he's has every time the forums go ka-blooie.)

I think Monkey is under the impression that he's the only person in the universe.

My thoughts keep returning to this thread.

I'm fulfilling other torrent obligations at the moment.

Where's the fucking torrent, Gifford?

A nice little rant there.  For the record I'm stealing the rant, polishing it, removing the profanity, and including it as a supplemental for my college applications.  Just think, you may be the reason I get into a prestigious community college.

good rant, nacho, but that's the way it is.  I'm sick of rush hour traffic but that isn't going away either.

I toxed out on BBSes before you but I think I just wasn't getting as much out of them as you were.  When my 486 died mid-1995 I waited a few years to replace it -- I'd toxed out on PCs but I worked with the internet every day.

my end-of-the-rat-race dream has been to move to the middle of nowhere and do agricultural work -- breeding Maine Coon Cats or shitake mushrooms -- but I'm waiting until I can afford a fast internet connection to my mountain cabin.

"strange sort of drunken, late night dependency that, eventually, degrades the friendship into something weird. "  eh, this is about all I'm capable of anyhow.  I do prefer meeting in person but my logistics suck.

Yeah, yeah, I'll get around to doing a torrent.
