So, the Women's Studies media blitz has begun. This thread is to collect any and all press articles, reviews, etc. that may pop up. Should you run across anything pertaining to the film in your travels. Please post a link here.
First up is a general intro piece by horror-movies.ca:

FANGORIA!
http://www.fangoria.com/news_article.php?id=2831
I've been reading Fangoria magazine since I was ten years old, so this is pretty huge for me.
-
Nice!!
This is one damned fine quote: “The movie has no political agenda except to show how scary cults can be. It’ s all done in the spirit of horror-movie fun. Feminists, misogynists, pagans, abortionists—we skewer everybody, both figuratively and literally.... It’s also scary as hell.”
I think I'll use that when promoting the film from now on.

Poland!
-
Learn your url's, RC. It's important for the press kit.
-
pl = poland . . . got it.
-
Now you go and change the press kit and make this much larger than it is. Should I not write that on the public boards? Lie about everything! Publisher's rule number one. I could make the raw, red hatred girl's quote sound like she's your number one fan in three minutes. And if that were about one of my books, I wouldn't blink an eye doing it and using it on the back cover.
-
Oh, fear not. We have a whole "negative" ad campaign dreamt up once the movie is made.
-
Oh-ho!

(finally tuning in)
Awesome. That has to be fun to write.

I couldn't ask for better press.
If you guys could keep your eyes peeled over the next couple of weeks for other news items, that would be great. We're interested in seeing how this disseminates.
-
Hah! Dude, that is super cool! Fangoria!!!
-
Are you in the print version as well? Because then you can have it appear in the movie, liek Raimi did in Army of Darkness.
-
Sweet. They love you, too. Fangoria sounds all happy about your movie. =)

Not sure about this month, but it could happen in time to do something like that.
And thanks, Fajwat.

great review exposure for you, except:
Rather than a typical "hack & slash" horror movie, writer/director, Lonnie Martin, describes it as “an intelligent“an intelligent look at group think, women's issues, and how blind belief in any one-sided dogma can create a violent extremist.”
what what what?
try:

That's beautiful, RC. And a positive post.
Also something to make Mrs. RC glow:
You know, if they show enough of the female anatomy on a DVD cover, I find I look at it a little slack-jawed. How sad is that?

We're working on it, but IMDB is touchy about when and how they put a new movie on the site.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 16, 2007
For more information, contact:
Jamey Duvall, producer
Movie Geeks United!
WOMEN'S STUDIES DIRECTOR LONNIE MARTIN,
ACTRESS JUDITH O'DEA,
AND ADDITIONAL CAST MEMBERS
TO BE INTERVIEWED ON INTERNET RADIO
Women's Studies writer/director Lonnie Martin, and co-stars Judith O'Dea, Cindy Marie Martin, and Tara Garwood will participate in a live interview on Blog Talk Radio's Movie Geeks United! broadcast this Wednesday, July 18, at 10pm (EST). The show can be accessed in live or archived format at www.blogtalkradio.com/moviegeeksunited.
Women's Studies, which began shooting this month and has already been prominently featured by the likes of Fangoria magazine and JoBlo's Arrow in the Head website, tells the story of a pregnant grad student and her friends who are held captive at a women's academy that is populated by a cult of feminists bent on the enslavement of men. More than a typical horror film, Women's Studies harkens to the classic genre pictures that relished in subversive social commentary, as it presents an intelligent look at groupthink, women's issues, and how blind belief in a one-sided dogma can create a terrorist.
Writer/director Lonnie Martin has written over a dozen scripts for stage and screen. Through his company, Ningen Manga Productions, Mr. Martin has produced works that have earned accolades from the Santa Fe Writer's Project, the Source Theatre Festival, the 48 Hour Film Project, as well as the Temecula Valley and West Chester film festivals.
Actress Judith O'Dea became an integral part of cinematic history with her immortal portrayal of Barbara in George Romero's 1968 film Night of the Living Dead. Her resume includes more than 40 years of extensive credits on film, stage, radio and television. In addition, Ms. O'Dea is also an accomplished writer and owner of O'Dea Communications, a communications consulting and training company.
Women's Studies co-star, co-producer and publicist Cindy Marie Martin has played a variety of roles on stage with the Repertory Theatre of America, the Elkins Shakespeare Festival, the West End Dinner Theatre, Venus Theatre, and the Landless Theatre Company, in addition to a series of featured roles on various short films.
Tara Garwood is a highly accomplished stage and screen actress who has received multiple raves from critics and audiences alike. She will soon be featured on the big screen for the August release of The Invasion, starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig.
The broadcast will also feature a separate interview with acclaimed character actor Spencer Garrett, co-star of the new film I Know Who Killed Me and the upcoming Charlie Wilson's War.

Here's a short "tease" of the Fangoria set report. I got word last night that the full length articie is going to be featured in the print version of the magazine sometime in the future which is damned awesome.

Yay! More "bad" press.
http://www.shamelessmag.com/blog/2007/08/feminism-the-horror-movie/ (http://www.shamelessmag.com/blog/2007/08/feminism-the-horror-movie/)
Here’s a Film Fridays bonus. I get a lot of weird press releases: people who want Shameless to do stories on teen TV Hollywood stars and mommy-and-toddler toys. But the strange press release of the day goes to the makers of Women’s Studies: a horror B-movie coming soon to a movie theatre near you.
At first, I thought this might be fun: a largely female cast — it could be campy, subverting the traditional man-hunts-helpless-girls horror set up. Maybe this wasn’t just scream queens and blood-spattered prom dresses. Maybe this wasn’t the senseless misogynist violence of torture-porn movies like Captivity (see Stacey May’s excellent post about that one here). After all, Buffy was in the horror genre, right?
Nope, Women’s Studies looks more like “Feminism: the horror movie.” (I think the movie’s tagline, “Open your mind before it gets opened for you” is deeply hilarious.) Students at a girls-only college are indoctrinated with women’s studies, politics, media and genetics (so that women can reproduce without male chromosomes). Check out this description, straight from the Women’s Studies website (which, by the way, has the URL areyoualadykiller.com):
Mary soon discovers that Judith and the academy have a darker side: indoctrinating women into their apocalyptic sect and then sending them out into the world to strip men of power and status and enslave them. Slowly, Mary begins to realize that Judith and the cultists will do anything to fulfill their dogma . . . including murder.
The filmmakers seem to think that they have made something revolutionary and relevant. (See their hilariously bad documentary about why the movie is so edgy.) But it’s the same tired old stereotype of feminists as man-haters. And, of course, they all make out a lot. Ugh.
Well, I guess the press release was useful. I am getting the word out: don’t go see this film.
-
See, though, it's one of those bad reviews that makes you want to check out the movie.
-
It's totally one of those bad reviews that links to us three different times and makes the movie sound pretty good.
-
Is this where you write him and say "We need more reviews like that!"
-
I'll also add that "raw, red hatred" needs to be somewhere on the DVD cover.
-
And it well may.
What I think is funny is that I get feminists who are offended by the concept and a bunch of guys who are pissed off because there isn't enough T&A. I can't win.
-
Well...there isn't enough T&A. vduel
-

MTI enrolls in WOMEN’S STUDIES
Written by Michael Gingold
Writer/director/co-producer Lonnie Martin gave Fango the scoop that MTI Home Video has picked up his debut feature WOMEN’S STUDIES. “A lot of work and love was put into this film,” he tells us, “and I’m thrilled people are finally going to get the chance to see it.”
WOMEN’S STUDIES is about a graduate student in the titular subject who, along with three friends, winds up on the campus of a girls-only academy with an empowering feminist doctrine. The longer they stay, however, the more they discover about the school’s dark and violent side. The filmmaker’s wife, Cindy Marie Martin, co-produced and stars alongside Tara Garwood, Melisa Breiner, Laura Bloechl, James Radack, Kelley Slagle and NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD’s Judith O’Dea.
“MTI is a perfect fit,” Martin says. “Not only do they have a lot of respect for the horror genre, but they also deal with movies that don’t neatly fit into just one category—and WOMEN’S STUDIES is far from your typical horror film. We took some creative risks with the standard genre formula, and I’m interested to see how audiences will react.”
The DVD debut is tentatively set for next fall, with an exact release date to be announced. “I can’t wait to introduce movie watchers to the Ross-Prentiss Women’s Academy,” says Cindy Marie Martin. “The fall ’09 release, just as college and high-school classes start up, is perfect. We’ll have some fun with that.” There will also be advance theatrical screenings, so keep your eyes here for info on those and our on-set WOMEN’S STUDIES coverage.
