Our Matrix thread was in the old forums, but a trailer hasn't made me this giddy since probably the one for "The Force Awakens."

Yeah, it sucked me in as well...

My fav movie of 2020 is 2019's Yesterday. Perfect in every way from start to finish.

My favorite movie of 2020 came out in 2016. The first half is almost perfect. The second half is far less so, but by that point you don't care. Can we like a movie by Max Landis or is that bad now?

Random movie reviews:

JoJo Rabbit... The best pure satire in decades that somehow manages to have a deep emotional core. It threads a needle you didn't even know existed. The kids are all fantastic and between this and Marriage Story, I'm becoming convinced Scarlett Johansson is the best actress of her generation.

Logan Lucky... Steven Soderbergh's carer has just sort of slipped by me. I put off watching Magic Mike because I thought it was softcore porn for women, but when Missus RC finally convinced me to give it a shot, I was floored by it's emotional depth. Yet, it all made sense when i saw it was directed by Soderbergh. Logan Lucky was the same thing. Somebody told me to watch it because is a West Virginia heist movie. Again, I was fucking floored by ow funny it was. (If not totally ridiculous.) Come for one of the best heist movies since Thomas Crown affair but stay for 100 cameos and  Daniel Craig in his most gonzo performance ever.

Yesterday, from Danny Boyle and everyone else, about a low rent musician who wakes up after an accident to a world that doesn't know who the Beatles were is a seriously lovely and charming movie. It's funny, it's touching, it's elegantly beautiful and there are a few tearjearker moments that are tearjerkers in just the right way for people of a certain age/Beatles fans.

So, like there's no movie I'm excited about coming out right now. This is a very strange place to be and I don't know how I'm supposed to feel... other than dead inside.

Part of my news blackout is a commercial blackout. I have no idea what's coming out. And half of it leaks anyway now that the studios have made every mistake necessary to revitalize piracy. I mean, Parasite dropped two years ago!

I just looked. So Portrait of a Lady on Fire is coming out. That was good. It dropped on the pirate sites 8 months ago. I'm into a Quiet Place sequel because /PA.

After Midnight is mindless fun. That also leaked about four months ago.

This is so high on m list. Is it streaming anywhere?

Have I mentioned Parasite on GS at any point? I saw it last weekend and it has skyrocketed to my favorite movie of last year... even though I saw it this year.

I stole it. I'll watch it again when it is streaming. And again!

Parasite is in the queue. I saw some of it in 2018, like a festival cut or whatever I now realize. So I have to watch it properly.

Jojo Rabbit. Beautiful and insane, troubling and uplifting. Best movie I've seen so far in an already sad 2020.

Did While We're Young and Marriage Story (both on Netflix) back to back and am officially now a Noah Baumbach fan.

Everybody's talking about how great Adam Driver is in Marriage Story, and make no mistake, he's hands down the best actor of his generation. (Watching him in this versus Rise of Skywalker only further illustrates what a hot mess that movie is.) That said, ScarJo is absolutely sensational in his movie. I love it when "beautiful" actors play normal and desperately flawed people. There's a single shot early on which is mind-numbingly good. Laura Dern is also fucking amazing, but she's amazing reading a phone book.

Anyway, RC says Go Baumbach or Go Bum Back. (See what I did there?)

That's what I thought too.
