Full feldged pre-production has begun. We're still in the midst of fundraising, but thing are starting to look up in that department. (At the same time, if anybody has at least $10,000 they'd like to invest . . ) This week has been shopping around for teh best deals on lighting, sound, and camera equipment and putting together teh beginnings of a workable budget.
We're also starting to cast as well. Here's the casting notice I've sent out:
Feature Film Seeks Female Actors
Ningen Manga Productions is currently in pre-production on a feature film and is collecting headshots for auditions to be held later this year. We are looking for FEMALE ACTORS to fill three very important roles. Closed-minded or faint of heart women need not apply.
--REDHEAD - natural preferred, but dye jobs will be considered. Must be able to look college age. This is a very physical role with combat and dancing. Experience in both a plus. More importantly, this role requires an extremely wide emotional range. Very challenging role, but very rewarding as well.
--AFRICAN-AMERICAN - Very athletically built, and, ideally, very tall. Think Serena Williams meets Wonder Woman. Cool stoicism with a sultry side. Requires combat, so experience a plus. Must have the acting chops to back up the look.
--YOUNG COLLEGE GIRL - Must be able to look 18 -20. Meek and insecure, a diamond in the rough. This character makes many visual and emotional transformations so a wide range is required.
Non-Union is preferred, though all applicants will be considered. There is minimal pay, as this film is ultra-low budget. A four week, six days a week shooting schedule is planned. We are based in the DC area, but shooting could require some travel. If interested, please send a headshot and resume in an email with the subject heading: "Ningen Manga Headshot" to lonnie@ningenmanga.com .
Last year, Ningen Manga Productions completed the short film, First Session, which went on to garner positive reviews and was accepted as an official entry to both the Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival, and the West Chester Film Festival. More information can be found at http://www.firstsessionmovie.com .
We look forward to hearing from you.

Hey, give it a shot and see what you come up with.

So, we're still a ways off from making most of the casting decisions for Women's Studies. As decisions get made, I'll post them here.
And of course, one has been known for a long time. The lead role of Mary, our resourceful heorine, will be played by none other than Mrs. RC herself, Cindy Marie Martin. It's good to know the director, eh?
Check out her brand spanking new website:

y'know, i should send you a headshot...i've been in several fringe productions!
-
fringe productions!
Is that code for porn?
-
How do you make stained glass?
-
Mrs. RC keeps the process secret from me, but I think fairies and elves are involved.
-
Really?!? Nice!!!

New round of auditions tomorrow. We've got a twenty actors scheduled to come. The big focus is on the characters of Melissa, Iris, and Zack, though we're looking at everybody.
-
Call backs are this Saturday. We're likely to cast three of the big roles and possibly two of the supporting ones.
Of course, nothing will be final until I get all my paperwork straight with the Screen Actors Guild. Still, you often (though not always) find better quality in actors who are SAG, so it's worth the extra work and money.
-
ScAG! Arrggghhhh!
-
That was a strong reaction. Bad experience?
-
It was supposed to be a pirate thing.
But I'm dead and blind now.
I had a pizza for lunch. When I threw away the box, I noticed the nutrition info: 6 servings (I ate all of them) Calories per serving: 370.
2,220 calories in 15 minutes. Oh Jesus. Leave me alone.
-
Okay, Mr. 3% body fat.
-
You fat bitch.
-
I certainly feel like one. Ooof.
-
You disgust me.
Go do some exercise.
Fatty!
-
Call Backs today! We'll have some cast soon!
-
Our second official cast member has been signed on. Kelley Slagle will be playing the role of "Diane" in Women's Studies.
We're very excited to have Kelley on board. You can get more info about her and her production company, Cave Girl Productions at http://www.cavegirl.com.
-
Another actor is on board.
Melisa Briener-Sanders will be playing "Beth" in Women's Studies.
More on Melisa at http://www.melisabs.com.
-
she seems nice. Beth's the laser-eyed dominatrix android with a heart of gold, right?
-
No. She's the fairy princess with spider's legs.
-
Oh, Melisa's my favorite. MMMmm... Legs.

Is this script full of space battles with Star Trek ships but not with Star Trek characters? Or, if it is with Star Trek characters, do they all get tortured by the pre-happy time Borg and then, say, Bruce Campbell and a crew of pirates (all female -- I suggest Rachel Blakely and Gina Torres) take over and blow things up for two hours and end by getting themselves in a hilarious and zany situation which sets up a sequel set in a near future New York that has been taken over by zombies?
-
No, but I'll keep that in mind for the TV spin-off.
-
I think you should, because Bruce knows his way around zombies.

DEADITES AREN'T ZOMBIES!

Welcome back to the land of the living. Now grab a shovel and get to work!
-
We have our Judith now too.
Tara Garwood will be portraying our favorite knife-wielding, off-kilter redhead.

-
We also have the character of "Iris" cast.
Laura Bloechl (pronounced "Blake-El") doesn't have a website, but here's a pic and bio.

-
Oh Jesus.
RC. Look. I know you like horror and all, but fuck that. The real money's in lesbian porn. All you'll need to make is a few "minor" script changes. Just sprinkle the following throughout the script:
"INT: Pink room with king-size vibrating bed."
"... as she slipped off her shirt."
"Caressing her nipples, ..."
"Dialing Tyson's phone number, she ..."
-
And our last bit of casting news, at least for a bit:
Tiffany James will be playing the very fun, very witchy (in the wiccan sense) role of "Melissa."
Tiffany doesn't have a website, but I assure you that she's quite cool.
-
I hear "wiccan" again, RC. You know that you're turning into me, right? But you're ten years behind, which is good. That means the drinking and the pills won't start until you're 40.
Or until the second day of filming.
-
Or until the second day of filming.
My bets are on this one.

Judith O’Dea, who played the iconic role of “Barbara” in George A. Romero’s 1968 horror classic, Night of the Living Dead, has signed on to play the role of Senator Gayle Hamlin in Women’s Studies.

Congrats RC!

Tara Garwood, Women's Studies "Judith," was in the apparently craptacular "body Snatchers" remake The Invasion with Nicole Kidman. Her scene is online, which saved me from having to pay money to see it.

1) Tara's hot.
2) Body Snatchers Remake #348 = 28 Days Later/et. al.?
-
1) Quite.
2) Original Don Seigel film is the best adaptation of Finney's novel.
3) I consider Women's Studies a "Body Snatcher" type movie.
-
The 78 version is the best! I'll fight you on that point.

-
I haven't seen the '78 version in too long to properly argue that point, but once my scheudle free up we'll spend a day getting drunk and watching both versions and then get into a fist fight over Sutherland's performance.
-
It's a date. We'll watch all versions, baby!
56 -- OG.
69 -- The Body Stealers.
78 -- Sutherland rocks.
93 -- Body Snatchers.
98 -- The Faculty.
07 -- Shitfest.
Plan it.

Reading the following explanation will actually take you longer than just clicking the link below and voting. Seriously.
Melisa Breiner-Sanders, an actor friend and Women's Studies star is trying to win a role on Mad Men. It's just a small role, but small roles can lead to getting noticed which can lead to her breaking out which can lead to ME actually being able to sell the film that my wife and I are in deep financial and emotional debt over. Yes, I'm that kind of selfish opportunist.
You don't have to sign up for anything.
You don't even have to watch her video.
Just click below and vote on the big red button to the left.

Anyone else having trouble with the voting part?
What's wrong with me?!?
