Bad education system, man. But that's most places these days... nobody wants smart people out there, unless they're working in a BigPharm factory.
I'm surprised it's only 51%. I tend to think that this comes from this science vs. religion battle that we seem to have. And really it's kind of "new everything all the time" vs. "the old ways are best" polarization. It's such a silly thing to harp on though.
I recently had this exact conversation with my son:
S: I don't believe in the big bang because I believe in God making everything. (Perfectly normal statement for a 9 year old)
Me: Even if you believe in God, you can still believe in the Big Bang. Couldn't God's power have started that process?
S: Oh, that makes sense.
As a Christian in society do I really need to tie everything to a literal scientific expression of how God works and reject all scientific thought? Ridiculous!! Let's learn all we can about how everything works and revise our thinking and learning. It's so much more fun than having to try to fit everything into an old broken framework. "God loves you" doesn't care about the big bang, evolution, abortion, or how old the earth is.
