So...Maze Runner. It's really just Hunger games meets Resident Evil, and that's what kills it.

That said, I kind of enjoyed it.

I had no idea it was a trilogy, so the end was shocking to me.

Ha! Yes, that would have been nutty. No, I knew it's a trilogy (with, now, a trilogy of prequels).

I just wanted to see Patricia Clarkson get naked.

I find it odd that we don't have a disaster movies thread...

So I watched San Andreas last night -- where The Rock has to save his family during a series of 9.6+ earthquakes that tear California aprt.

It is easily the best bad movie of 2015. It's also somehow small and not too insanely far-fetched. I mean...it is far-fetched, but he doesn't drive a car through a falling building and emerge without a scratch.

They've kept one foot firmly in 70s disaster movie porn, where people die and there are consequences and the situation is dangerous. Then they've also very successfully blended it with modern disaster movie porn where you can escape from an airborne cargo ship and avoid a collapsing building and outrun a fireball.

It is, of course, 99.99% ridiculous... But I was involved, engaged, and enjoying it throughout. It was well paced and fun.

Warning: I am a Rock apologist.

Have you seen "Ballers"?  HBO.

Not yet. Is it really, really horrible? Because I will still come on here and praise The Rock if so.

It's not horrible...it's not great.  Watchable and lots of T&A.  And a very odd casting choice involving Dule Hill.

Man...the film version of Z for Zachariah totally misses the point of the book. In the book, our heroine was a teenage girl preyed upon by a fucko patriarchal monster who kept trying to rape her and, generally, stalked her as creepily as possible. She had to outsmart him and establish her identity and freedom, going on a strong woman's journey throughout.

In the movie, she's a flirtatious 20-something who throws herself at the male character and begs him for sex.

It's totally bizarre. And yet another example of the sad plight of women in modern entertainment.

Hmmm... Well, at first glance, they're missing the point. But I need to see more...

The book appeared to have been written by an 8 year old... But I'll still watch this movie.

So, I don't want to alarm you, but Cell is pretty good.

I mean, it's terrible made-for-cable style post apocalypse...but it's enjoyable nonetheless.

Also, I started drinking early.

Awake, the new Netflix show, is pretty good. Solar flare, nobody can sleep except for our hero's little girl. Evil government corporation trying to find a cure but they're all insane. It is 100% write by numbers and you've seen it all before but... It's gory and fun regardless.
