So you're saying that only white people were allowed to become police officers in NO?  There was an active effort to keep black people from becoming cops?  It's that vast right-winged conspiracty rearing its ugly head again.

Nope. What I'm saying is that meany poor blacks have been brought up in an environment where the police are the enemy. Remember that this the south and southern blacks are a group of people who only forty years ago where being lynched and killed while the police turned a blind eye. There attempts to organize and peacefully demonstrate for change were also often undermined by a mostly white police force.

I'm saying that those tensions are still thre. We don't want to think they are. We want to think we've come so far since 1968 or '72 or whatever, but we haven't.
