Sounds like China's going to have a fun winter.

The Winter of Chinese Discontent.
There will come a day for every man when he will relish the prospect of eating his own shit. That day has yet to come for me.

Crazy timing. I caught COVID while in NYC for my anniversary this week; my first official positive test.

I'm on Day 3(ish). We saw Hamilton on Broadway Sunday afternoon and a maskless kid blew his nose and coughed the entire time. ("But otherwise, how was the play, Missus Lincoln?") I had a mask on, but he was right there beside me. I know 24 hours seems a quick turn around to get symptoms, though this new variant apparently comes on quick. Hoping it leaves just as quick.

Started out with a throat tickle Monday night then got a pretty intense fever on Tuesday night. I never measured it, but I had pretty serious chills. The fever broke overnight though I still felt like ass he next AM. And then the congestion and cough kicked in, just in time to get on my plane home. I masked and contained my cough. (Blew my nose once.)

I was amazed at how guilty I felt about getting it on vacation. We masked at all our theatre shows and ate outdoors every chance we got. The part of me who cares about public safety felt awful about getting on a plane, but the sick guy who just wanted to be in his own bed trumped that guy hard.

That's where I am now. Curled up in bed with a 99.3 degree fever, sore throat and major nasal congestion, getting up every half hour to pee because i'm drinking water every ten minutes.

So, yes, I too went back and reread this thread. It's amazing how much of the experience I've forgotten. Collective trauma blocking.

The last bout (worse for me, easier for the S.O., which was the reverse of the first bout) was terrible. All those same things. Spent a week in bed.

Now.. I wonder how Long COVID will treat you! It took me maybe 2-4 months to feel normal again. During that time I would have sudden drops in energy. Like....crumple to the floor in exhaustion. And my stomach was always slightly off. And I have never felt mentally 100% for the last 15 months. Definitely slowed down a bit in terms of processing and multi-tasking.

But....that might also be the vodka and recreational pot.

Our cases were way down in the area -- like single digits -- until the Beyonce concert which was a mega superspreader.

A few news stories about cases being up overall with this new variant. Fall flu/COVID shot is supposed to be dialed in to it. (I read about the Beyonce show though.)

Missus RC also gets much milder symptoms than me. Wonder if it hits dudes harder than women.

Though this is my first positive test, I'm fairly certain I've had it before, specifically last winter because *that* is the bout where i feel like I got some long COVID stuff; spotty memory, fatigue for no reason, and I've been in and out of the ENT offices the past six months with tinnitus /hearing loss in my left ear. (Which is where the sickness always seems to coalesce.) So hopefully, it'll just be business as usual.

Also, we're looking 50 in the eye so some of this stuff is just being middle aged guys who don't recover from shit like we used to.

The hearing loss thing is bizarre! I know lots of folks who lost hearing after COVID. And one gal who has vision problems.

That weirdly makes me feel better.

Though being six days into it, maybe this is my first COVID rodeo. This shit is weird. I'll feel like I'm on the mend, only to get nailed with congestion and fever two hours later. My temperature is hovering right around 99, though it drops a bit with OTC meds. Got my first good night of sleep last night since it came on though. I am on the upswing (I think), but man it's slow. Tenacious little fucking virus, isn't it?

Yeah, it's wild. Again, even after I kicked the bedridden phase, it took me months before my energy levels felt the same.

Man, I went from doubter to true believer pretty quick once I got it. And I got it two months after getting a booster!

Today is the first day (Day 7) I've had a bit of pep. Okay, "pep" might be too strong a word, but I was able to do some laundry and a bit of house straightening this AM without feeling like I needed to sleep for twelve hours. Fever is still staying closer to 99 than 98, but seems to be slowly dipping back to normal. Swollen glands / sore throat is the worst of it at this point, though my nose constantly feels like I just snorted water in the swimming pool.

Hearing thing is crazy. The last few colds I've caught have all centered around my left ear. All started with the sore throat/swollen glands, and didn't really do much else but give me a slight cough. No congestion, just that weird sore throat. I've had tinnitus for years and got diagnosed with Meneire's pre-pandemic.

Then in February, I lost most of the mid-low frequency hearing in my left ear. Came on pretty suddenly. Certain music at the baritone level sound out of pitch / flat. It comes and goes. Saw three different ENTs. Had two MRIs. Physically, my eardrums in both ears are textbook healthy. The last ENT dug a little deeper and altered the diagnosis to something called Hydrops with is Menerie's adjacent.

My uncle on my dad's side had hearing aids in his 50s and my dad is deaf as shit, so it could just be genetic.

Is fentanyl and spray cheese the American equivalent?
