What surprised me with setting up my Android phone is how I actually had a foot on both sides: all of my google stuff popping up automatically and without set up on my Android showed me that my iPhone just kept a dampener on my Google insertion.

I use Weatherbug. Aldiko's a nice book reader, avast for anti-virus (or AVG). Google Sky Map for drunken nights in the south of France. Out of Milk for shopping. Gentle Alarm replaces my normal alarm. Quick Office, of course. I use tape-a-talk to record my death screams on the Metro when zombies attack.

Weatherbug was a great recommendation, thanks! I also picked up Gentle Alarm.

I have the usual Facebook/Twitter bla bla bla... Flipboard, Google Maps, Youtube etc. as well as TED, Kobo - Google's reader - and Kindle, Sky Maps is sorted and I also have RetroArch (recommended by a nerd friend) which is a pretty cool emulator for every kind of game up to PS1 standard. Games must be found elsewhere though.

And Dolphin browser is much better than Chrome: smoother, with better HTML5 support. I downloaded Nova 2.0 launcher with a couple of themes with which to play around.

Anything I'm missing?

Another annoying Android newbie question - why am I having bother with merging apps into folders?

For example, I have a folder entitled, "Utilities" for things like Google Drive, Navigation etc... won't let me add things into it, and when I took one out wouldn't let me put it back in.

This a launcher settings problems or some gay shit to do with google?

I just use "My Music" -- which should be standard -- for music. But I'm not a big music on the phone guy because I'm convinced DC is full of killers. Also, I tend to just fall down the Pandora hole when I use it in my car.

"My Files" -- also standard? -- helps with moving files around. Though I know there are other programs out there, and used to use them on the Droid 3. I'll have a look around.

For the most part, I just jack the phone into the PC and treat it like a jump drive.

Though I do know that some things can't be toyed with and moved around. File management will be the first negative experience outside of the iGarden! In PC land, the Files of Nod move about freely and only answer to the rule of law when it suits them.

I haven't tried Dolphin...but will now, because fuck the standard browser (and stupid Firefox).
