Which happens frequently in the Mesa commune in rural New Mexico (an off the grid, somewhat lawless collective).  They've since created a small, local fire department.

But, yes.  Always a threat.  Or your shit can be blown up by your neighbor's meth lab while you're at work.

But, of course.  And complicated earthworks.  And we'll need to employ several foresters and a small militia infantry.  These we can levy from the village, which we'll also establish.

I loved that game.
There will come a day for every man when he will relish the prospect of eating his own shit. That day has yet to come for me.

I've always (and, I mean, since I was about 10) had this fantasy of liquidating everything and living in an Airstream in the desert.  So stuff like this really turns me on:

According to Matthew, his primary motivation for moving into an Airstream was to reduce his overhead and downsize his life. Having recently moved out of a large house to begin Hofmann Architecture, he wanted to not only downsize his massive truckload of things, but also to create an office that would allow him to enjoy the outdoors. His previous work environments had been those with no view and “creatively painful.” With the Pacific Ocean as his backyard, he’s now able to think more clearly.

Here's his blog, which isn't very useful:
