Knights of the Old Repbulic I and II are two of the best games ever made for the original Xbox, so I am very excited about this. Now, they're labeling it an "MMO/RPG", so I think there's a possibility that the MMO aspect of it might make it a little less fun for me, but who knows.
The originals, in case you aren't familiar, take a distinctly Dungeons & Dragons approach to RPG video gaming and you have no control over the fighting mechanics at all. Instead, you queue up an attack command (or a series of them) and the game then simulates a fight using a dice system for attacking and saving rolls. Things like what weapon you have, available cover in the area, your character level, force powers, strength of your enemy, number of your enemies and your equipped armor all have an effect on whether or not you will win a battle. Basically... these games were uber nerdy... so much so that when I first picked up the original KOTOR, I hated it.
Another awesome aspect of the Old Republic games (at least so far) has been the ability to choose to follow the light or dark side of the force as you progress through the game. KOTOR, of all the games I've played where you can choose between good and evil, has done the best job with this feature and both previous games have really used it to add a level of depth to the games that is missing from most others in their class. I can't wait for this one!
