Out today... I've been seeing videos for this popping up on the internet for a month or so now.  It looked cool as shit, but the reviews kind of confirm it.

This action-adventure is so smart, so well-written, and delivered with such an obvious love for its source material, I daresay it is both the best licensed game ever made, and arguably the best game of its kind in our current console generation.

One of those games that comes along every few years that will have gamers talking about it long into the future. It is this year's BioShock, and I for one could not put it down from start to finish. If you enjoy great narrative, interesting boss encounters, fresh gameplay and of course everyone's favorite detective then Arkham Asylum will not disappoint.

The greatest comic book videogame of all time. This is an adult Dark Knight story that is well-told, packs some truly fun gameplay elements, has topnotch voice talent, and feel like it's part of Batman cannon.

I traded in a bunch of my old crap to get this game and so far it's been totally worth it.  The graphics are absolutely phenomenal and the gameplay is a blast.  I used to watch the Batman cartoon from the 90's after I got home from school, so the game is made even cooler by the fact that they got the actors from that series (including Mark Hamill as the Joker) to come back and voice the game.

Also, the PS3 version comes with special content... missions you can complete as the Joker, so that should be fun.

Besides running around and smashing things or performing very satisfying combos with fists and knees, the "detective" part of the game is a lot of fun too.  Batman's got some special visual filters that allow him to isolate stuff in the environment he can use to help progress the game.  For instance, when the Joker kidnaps Commissioner Gordon at the beginning, Batman finds an empty flask at the scene of the crime and with the detective mode, he can analyze the liquor left then follow its vapor signature in the atmosphere to where Gordon is being held.

I'm only about an hour into the game, but so far it is definitely worth checking out if you like comic book games or beat 'em up button mashers.
