So, yes, the announcement was about the exoplanets in the Trappist-1 system. Notable because there are seven of them, with three in the "Goldilocks Zone."

This is really news from 2015. And now all we can do is stare at the system and not really learn all that much.

Only 40 light years though. All we need is a trans-wrap drive. Where's Scotty when you need him?!

Well, and now we can listen and broadcast. So only 40-80 years before we hear something!

And, by then, we'll be able to see them better anyway.

These are all probably sad, windswept rocks. Our descendants will barely eek out a living on them in 250 years, go quietly insane, and then murder each other while the Earth devolves into the Great East-Wast War and forgets about them.

All so sad.

Look, life on this planet sucks bad enough without you telling me it also sucks on planets we just discovered.

They think these are tidally locked. So imagine living through your sad life now except you're constantly exposed to cancer-causing rays all day while half your world, in dead darkness, generates hurricane like storms that sweep across your front yard every three hours or so.

With all the bullshit going on in DC, this is a nice distraction.
