So, Castle Rock is just ten episodes of Stephen King fan-fiction then? (Though Sissy Spacek in it intrigues me, I have to admit.)

An interesting topic for a front pager: What's with the freakout Stephen King nostalgia thing that's been going on? It's like everyone, all at the same time, was commanded by some higher power to reboot 70s and 80s King across every format.

What cosmic power decided this? Is it the Stranger Things effect? Is there some sort of planetary alignment?

Wow...The Orville really sucked. Which is sad.

Uh-oh. The show's starting to grow on me. It's kind of like watching a modern take on season 2 of TNG (the crippled, Crusherless strike season that recycled scripts from the failed reboot in the 70s) except it's a fan-made parody.

Netlfix's docuseries The Toys that Made Us is a must watch. They rightfully start you off with Star Wars to set the tone and then do  Barbie to really give you a deep sense of toy history. The third episode is He-Man, a toy I never played with but the story behind it is just bonkers. We're watching the G.I. Joe one tonight.

The G.I. Joe episode was the most disappointing of the bunch, maybe be cause after the gonzo He-Man story, it was just so vanilla. Still worth a watch because the history is so interesting though you feel like they miss some opportunities to get more nuanced. Of course, they had more than just the 80s era we're familiar with to cover.

The whole series is worth a watch and supposedly more episodes are coming. As it stands, the He-Man episode is far away the best of the bunch.

I am loving Waco! Two episodes of six so far, and based on two books -- one by a Waco survivor and another by the FBI negotiator. It's weirdly spellbinding. It's also...pro-Koresh! Or, at least, humanizes the branch Davidians. Well worth it.

No. Abram's mystery box mentality has ruined everything.

So... Just watched this episode. And, yes, it was terrible. They glossed over everything. The Kenner buyout gets a hand wave. The media blitz that consumed us all with the launch of the TV series? Not a peep. The series was launched as a 2 and a half hour movie, playing out in 30 minute episodes at 4pm Monday through Friday. It was insane! Yet they just shrug it off as a "Saturday morning cartoon." The impact of the Transformers movie (which destroyed the series)? No comment. The collapse of the series after the failed movie? No comment. The things Larry Hama did with the comic once he got over his first issue slump (some of which remain unparalleled today -- such as the entirely dialogue free issue which, by the way, is the single most reason Snake Eyes became the most popular figure, which the episode was obsessed about)? No comment.

The people who got royally fucked in the ass? We whisper about them and cut away before they break down.

The whole episode felt like 72 Hasbro lawyers were breathing down the show runner's necks. And that, alone, makes me hope that this series ends now. I don't want propaganda. I want the awesome story of how they fooled us all into spending thousands of dollars.

Yeah, it's the weakest by far. It's like they didn't talk to the right people.

They had the right people. They just weren't allowed to talk to them.
