Stone does kinda suck as a director.  My problem with him is that he's prone to artistic liscense with shit that's supposed to be a "true story".  If you watch an interview with Billy Hayes who wrote Midnight Express, you realize how much Stone fucked with the screenplay and altered the events of the story... it's something that is pretty symptomatic of his career I'm afraid.  I loved a lot of his movies... I've hated a lot of them too... but I'll never really trust anything Stone has to say about American politics or history. 

That said, I really want to see W.  It looks hilarious.

So is this talking about movies in 2008? Slumdog Millionaire was okay, if a little bit into the whole poverty-as-pornography thing. Milk was good, but the documentary (The Times of Harvey Milk) is much better. Dark Knight was fun. There Will Be Blood owned. Pineapple Express was mediocre. Tropic Thunder was good. Hellboy 2 was better than Hellboy and okay.

If it's worth discussion (such as Dark Knight), then that's worth a thread.

And Milk is downloaded and waiting for me.  Pineapple Express sucked, in my opinion.

The most generous interpretation of Pineapple Express is as a satire of action movies; even at that it's pretty fucking weak, and I've seen funnier stoner movies.

Benjamin Button is downloaded and ready for me.

I guess? It's hard for me to take Brad Pitt seriously in artful movies. But Benjamin Button has been gunning for awards since they came up with the idea.

I just saw Tropic Thunder over the weekend. All I have to say is that it was fucking great in terms of the humor and campy violence.

Next weekend, I'll probably watch In Bruges. I have it at home from Netflix. Has anyone seen it yet?
