I'm trying to kill time at work without watching six hours of lousy TV...so I'm breaking all my rules and taking the audiobook route.

No.  Gaiman's a hack.  Neverwhere is his best work, I think.  Though I enjoy the Terry Pratchet-ness of this one.

And now:

Why We Suck: A Feel Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid<img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=santafewriterspr&l=as2&o=1&a=0670031607" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" />

Leary reads the audiobook and it's like a long, angry stand-up act.

Oh! My gf and I listened to it in the car on the drive to Denver. I fucking loved it. Way funnier than Jim Gaffigan's King Baby.

Jesus...so Why We Suck is the modern American anthem.  Everybody should listen to this.

My file is 400 megs.  Too big for Sendspace.  But everyone should be able to find it...

I especially love the stuff about kids and being overprotective. Spot on.

Yeah, that's the part I just listened to that inspired me.  And, yes, it is spot on...

www.brokensea.com

They're doing some pretty cool podcasts of classic sci-fi movies that are a combination of the original books and the movie adaptations.

For PoTA, they stick very close to the book and the original script before Heston was cast.  So, if you want to hear how dreadful the book is (and it is), then start out with the prologue:

Never read the book, by the way.  It makes the remake look good.

By the way -- what's interesting about the prologue is the evolution of Taylor's final message to Earth.  What you hear above is a combination of his monologue in the book and what would eventually be paired down to Heston's misanthropic rant in the 68 film.

Returning to this old thread... Part of the hard drive clearances is to get rid of all these audiobooks I have sitting there.

I dumped a bunch of them on my phone and, tomorrow, I'll start on Why God is Not Great by Hitchens.
