So...my opinion is unchanged. I think Discovery suffers most from The Orville (which is what classic Trek should be like).

I actually feel like, if Discovery were a scifi show unrelated to Star Trek, it would be awesome. Instead they've taken a great standalone scifi show and shoe-horned as much Star Trek fan service as is humanly possible into every script and character motivation.

So I pushed through season two which...reboots the entire series! They're now 900 years in the future. reading about season 3, this was done to "free the series from the regular Star Trek timeline and was planned all along."

So... Why didn't you just make a post-Voyager series then if that's what you wanted? Or a standalone series that didn't have to spend EVERY SINGLE MOMENT dipping into fan service?

Picard episode two holds up. We have a deep mystery here. A little bit of a red flag -- most of the episode is exposition. And it feels like most of the next episode will be finding clues and assembling a crew. We don't actually have that long a season here. It feels like all of season one will be building up to "the beginning of the adventure," which... Well, that's okay. But be careful, writers! Because eight hours of making sure the ship has enough gas has been a mistake made by many other sci-fi shows.

I'm not sure a 10 episode series needs TWO episodes of filler and exposition. But.... I hear Jeri Ryan's going to show up eventually.

Sigh... So Jeri Ryan gets shoehorned in to the finale of episode four in the most awkward way possible. But she's still super hot, so whatever.

Though now I'm worried they'll spend two episodes telling us what Seven of Nine has been doing in the last 15 years in the most minute detail.

Episode six is not a Seven of Nine backstory episode... But, unlike everyone else, her character is radically different and so far off the rails that it's almost impossible to reconcile her with the Seven of Nine we saw last. So when we actually do need a backstory episode...we don't get one!
