PS -- that and the street icons are all things I pitched to you for that shoestring Youtube series idea. Local DC, exploring the neighborhoods, selling out to the advertisers like fucking whores...

Just because I say it's a good idea doesn't mean I want to invest the sweat equity to do it.

My plan is, like, a GoPro and a mic stolen from somewhere and we go drink and talk to some asshole who painted a police call box blue and put a ceramic hat on it. We spend two hours getting enough footage for 6 minutes and then we watch Elizabeth Montgomery from the early 60s and hold hands.

Considering we basically do this anyway every time we're together...

Not DC proper, but still pretty funny.

Fairfax City mayor tried to trade meth for group sex, police say

FAIRFAX CITY, VA. (WUSA9) - The mayor of Fairfax City is one of three people caught trying to distribute methamphetamine in exchange for sex, Fairfax County police said.

Mayor Richard “Scott” Silverthorne, who is also a substitute teacher for the Fairfax County Public Schools, was arrested Thursday after police said he tried to distribute meth to undercover detectives.

The investigation began in July after police learned of a possible meth dealer. Police said the suspect, later identified as Mayor Silverthorne, allegedly tried to distribute meth through a website used to arrange for casual sex between men.

An undercover detective then created a profile on the site and within a few days made contact with Silverthorne. The two made arrangements to meet at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Tysons Corner where he would exchange the meth for “a group sexual encounter.”

Thursday, the 50-year-old mayor met the undercover detectives and provided the meth. He was arrested and charged with felony distribution of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

During their investigation, investigators learned of his alleged suppliers, 34-year-old Juan Jose Fernandez and 21-year-old Caustin Lee McLaughlin.

Fernandez was charged with of felony distribution of methamphetamine, felony possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. McLaughlin was charged with felony distribution of methamphetamine, felony obstruction of justice and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Man, what is it about local government positions in the Greater Metro Area that drives people mad? Or are we just better at catching them here?

In the midst of all the election madness, maybe we should step back a bit and take a look at what's really happening on November 8th.

Both candidates have pledged that DC will become a state in their first terms. DC voters will be deciding if they want this to be a thing next month. If a supermajority says yes, then DC Statehood, for the first time, is going to become a real thing.

Horrifyingly, they've dropped "New Columbia" and have decided that the name of the new state will be...

Washington, DC!

Where DC stands for "Douglass Commonwealth."

So...the name of our 51st state will be Washington Douglass Commonwealth.

Yep.

Trump pledged DC statehood?

All post-election stuff I've seen is DC leadership backing away from anything like that and preparing to hunker down for the next 4 years.

Trump pledged DC statehood?

Well... In the same way he pledged everything else:

Quote
“I would like to do whatever is good for the District of Columbia because I love the people. You know, it's funny. I've really gotten to know the people, the representatives, and the mayor, and everybody. They're really special people. They're great. And they have a great feeling. So I would say whatever's best for them I'm for.” – Trump being interviewed by Chuck Todd on Meet The Press (2015).

While speaking to the Washington Post Editorial Board on March 21, 2016 Trump said about DC Statehood "I think statehood is a tough thing for D.C. I think it’s a tough thing. I don’t have a position on it yet. I would form a position. But I think statehood is a tough thing for D.C." and "I don’t see statehood for D.C." When asked about granting DC residents about a vote in the House of Representatives he responsed "I think that’s something that would be okay. Having representation would be okay."

One of our local mysteries!

Quote
Janet Mihalyfi can picture her dog, Havoc, wandering somewhere in Rock Creek Park, his black-and-tan fur matted as he plods through soggy leaves.

The image is clear in her mind, even though she hasn’t seen the 7-year-old Rottweiler with her own eyes since he went missing on a Bethesda trail in November 2013.

Over the past three years, Mihalyfi has devoted more than $40,000 to looking for him across Washington, D.C., Silver Spring and Chevy Chase. She’s stapled thousands of signs to poles and even sent up drones to scan the parkland.

Much more at the link -- she's not entirely crazy. Havoc has been sighted now and again: http://www.bethesdamagazine.com/Bethesda-Beat/Web-2016/Three-year-40000-Search-for-Dog-Continues-in-Bethesda-Silver-Spring/
