Good to know!  I'll open fire on anyone who doesn't use their turn signal from now on.  Then, because my dog died, I'm going to get real depressed and go on a Grand Theft Auto-style killing spree...on a narrow, short pier.  And still not fall in the water.

It's because your dog died?  I'm confused... I thought it was because of $6 gas.

That is the thing to do when gas hits $6.  Analysts are worried.

what about the fuckers who go to a Big Box plaza...go shopping at Circuit City, walk back to the car, go up and down the aisles looking for a close spot to the Linens and things RIGHT OVER THERE, get out, shop, come back, drive to a closer spot to the Home Depot which is also RIGHT FUCKING THERE, shop, come back, then will sit in the drive-thru at McDonalds when there's 15 cars in line and just idle for about 20 minutes as they babystep towards their value meals?

CHRIST.

Yeah, no kidding... I've started shutting my bike off at red lights to conserve gas.

Doesn't it take a lot of gas to start an engine? Like, 5 minutes of idling is about the amount of gas you use starting your engine?

Common misconception, Tyson.  Starting the car is equal to about 10 seconds of idle time.

It depends on the age of the car.  Anything newer than a 97 should see a 4-5% increase in fuel economy if you turn it off at stoplights.

Now, if it's my old college van, you need about a gallon to start it up.

Manual car FTW! I'm going to start coasting the downhills on the way home today to see what happens to my fuel economy. I'm already at 40mpg, with A/C on.

Hell yeah, that will definitely help.

Also try to ride around in the higher gears when at all possible... I've found with my bike that if I try to keep it in the 5-6000 rpm range, I can go from about 180 miles a tank to 210 miles a tank.

I want to see you work your way down Colesville using your cruise control, set at the speed limit, and also try to stop the traffic jam "waves."

I've done it.  It's hard to let go like that at first, but it's very peaceful once you get the hang of it.

Shit, doing that would cost me more in bullets than it would gas.

try bicycling if you want to talk about hostility.  even on back streets the assholes get self-righteous about owning the road and needing to race 60+mph everywhere.
