Good news, everyone! Because if you miss the cosmic shenanigans of our four unlucky space explorers Lister, Rimmer, Kryten and Cat, they will be returning for two more seasons of the cult sci-fi comedy series Red Dwarf -- starting next year.

Dave (a UKTV cable channel) has announced that Red Dwarf XI and Red Dwarf XII will begin production in the fall. The new episodes are set to air in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

The last time we saw Chris Barrie as Rimmer, Craig Charles as Lister, Danny John-Jules as Cat and Robert Llewellyn as Kryten was three years ago in the 2012 six-part series Red Dwarf X; which was a followup to 2009’s successful Red Dwarf: Back to Earth.

Co-Produced by Grant Naylor Productions and Baby Cow Productions, Red Dwarf XI and XII will be penned and directed by series co-creator Doug Naylor, who said:

"Everyone at UKTV have been so supportive of Red Dwarf from the start of their involvement with the show... [they] originally asked for more shows back in 2012 but frustratingly it’s taken until now to get our ducks in a row and all the boys available at the same time. Now they are, we’re all absolutely delighted."

UKTV’s commissioning editor Simon Lupton added that:

"Red Dwarf has superb talent attached; writing, directing and acting plus an expert team who absolutely know what they are doing when it comes to delivering a stand-out piece of television. It has a universal appeal that manages to touch long-standing fans and recruit new ones. It is fantastic to be collaborating with them again on the next phase of the Red Dwarf adventure."

So...I went crazy and got the whole series (except Back to Earth -- THAT NEVER HAPPENED!!!!  :colbert:) and I've started to marathon it from the start. And... I'm ready for it. The rough edges of the first...uh...5 seasons...uh...and the last 3 seasons...are okay when you look at it as almost a historical art installation.

It's almost pure nostalgia now, but it's a good, warm sort of nostalgia.

Red Dwarf is the show that never grows up. Though, at this point, I'm wondering if that's good or bad. The first episode of Season 11 was fast and required intimate knowledge of a long ago episode. Which is great for the fans! But pretty much the opposite of a gateway episode.

It really feels like they're all just randomly making a few episodes every few years and consider it a sort of hobby.

Loving this season of Red Dwarf. This show's revival is, weirdly, going backwards somehow. Season nine was bad, like the last seasons in the original run. Season 10 inched back to the sort-of in-between era. Season 11 feels like the best of season's three and four.

At this rate, season 12 will bring us full circle to repairing chicken soup dispensers.

Oh my god... Officer Rimmer was like an episode from the second or third season. Amazing and wonderful!

Oh, god. The finale was great. Classic polymorph humor.

So we get six more episodes next spring, then two more seasons in 2017 and 2018, and then they're officially done. This revival has really been excellent, though. Just Keep It Simple, Stupid. A lesson for all the other reboots and reimaginings out there.

A lousy copy of the first episode of season 12 has leaked. Premieres next Thursday, so I'm going to wait. I loved last season, though.

The big news? Holly's back!

First episode of season 12 is great. Man, this show. It's probably the only show I'd recommend watching backwards.

Red Dwarf: The Promised Land (the unofficial season 13) is both amazing and terrible...for the same reasons!

We finally learn about what happened to the cats. This has been something fans have speculated jokingly about for 32 years and, in the movie, we get a snoot-full with a much larger than usual budget. It's well done, there are lots of laughs, and it's again wonderful to see the old crew together.

My problem: The show has ignored the fate of the cats for 32 years. Suddenly reviving deep track season one stuff for the movie feels a little bit like, oh, okay. Now you're finally running out of ideas. Even though we don't care about that! We just want to see everyone fuck up and take a bazokoid to a metamorph!

Anyway, not the worst Red Dwarf, not the best, but I remain loyal and am glad I got it. Keep it coming!
