McCain’s website is offering “points” to folks who cut and paste pro-McCain content onto other blogs.

Wow, what can I get with my points, a cabin upgrade for that cruise with Hugh Hewitt? SO not worth it.

MotherJones Blog:

On McCain’s “Blog Interact” page, where the candidate’s supporters can find recommended blogs of all ideological stripes, the campaign is actually awarding points for trolling.

Help spread the word about John McCain on news and blog sites. Your efforts to help get the message out about John McCain’s policies and plan for the future is one of the most valuable things you can do for this campaign. You know why John McCain should be the next President of the United States and we need you to tell others why.

Select from the numerous web, blog and news sites listed here, go there, and make your opinions supporting John McCain known. Once you’ve commented on a post, video or news story, report the details of your comment by clicking the button below. After your comments are verified, you will be awarded points through the McCain Online Action Center.

The site even has “Today’s Talking Points” that McCain supporters can cut and paste into the comments sections of liberal blogs.

That’s right, computer-savvy Republicans! You can spend your days cutting and pasting comments from McCain.com into Daily Kos for “Online Points.” It will be a race to the finish to see if the McCain techs can “verify” your comments before they are troll-rated off the site! So be careful when you visit those recommended blogs…

I can only assume this is in response to the guy whose trying to coordinate cutting-and-pasting negative McCain articles in as many places as possible to make those articles come up higher on google.

i wish i'd rated that vid higher, since it's so blatantly featuring Obama making sense "Nuclear is not optimal" well, okay, that's hardly "No."

I just love the whole "he hates nuclear energy!!" as an attempt at negativity in America -- the most anti-nuclear power country on the planet.  Saying no to nuclear power is a plus in a campaign...even in these energy-conscious days.

Which is kind of unfortunate. Unless we invest like hell in solar and wind, nuclear's the only proven way to go.

Tyson!  Are you forgetting the minor nuclear accident at Three Mile Island 30 years ago?  Or Chernobyl, which happened because the Soviet Union was bankrupt, a third world country, and had no safety measures?!?!  Obviously the answer is yes!

There's a big-ass thread on nuclear energy in debate and discussion and basically people that are afraid of nuclear power are fucking morons. Even the leader of anti-nuke energy back in the 60s/70s came out a couple years ago and basically said, "I was wrong, sorry, guys."

It's such a deeply ingrained popular fear (good lord, it's the whole premise behind Space: 1999) that, yeah, anti-nuke people make no sense.  I mean...Three Mile Island was contained.  People are still there.  It's still running.

okay.  first of all, let's just agree that earthquakes and terrorist attacks are planned for but could imaginably cause some minor elevated risk to a nuke plant.  Enough said about that, please.

Where should the waste go?  Into depleted uranium armor piercing shells?  Into yucca mountain?  Into nuclear weapons?  How does the waste get there?  Doesn't the waste last, like, more than a few hundred years?

I fully believe we should invest heavily in wind, solar, and discovering new ways to exploit renewable energy.  My church has a geothermal heat pump; it cost only slightly extra and after a few years (I forget the projection) it should have paid for itself.  We should also pimp the fuck outta conserving energy but that will be more difficult, culturally and politically, in the USA.

None of that sounds revolutionary to me.  The 2 second soundbyte of Obama's sounded to me like "Hey, we've got options.  We'll need more than one approach.  Nukes ain't my primary choice."

Perhaps we should take this to the green Earth thread but, yes, of course we should go for wind/solar/whatever.  I agree with you.

But nuke power is fine.  Where do we store the waste?  We have vast storage houses for it currently.  Indian land bought for pennies!  And who cares about the future?

Don't forget that France's fusion reactor will be online in a few years.  That may well change the face of energy.  Or kill us all.

Nuke is okay for now, so is wind.  I worry about both for the long term.

Nuclear, for the reasons fajwat states.  Wind...because...I dunno...the whole "what can humans do to affect the earth's wind system?" thing sounds a lot like "We will never affect the climate of the earth!"

If we can get fusion reactors...that would be awesome.

The real winner is solar though, if we can win that...we're done.  We're good until the sun goes...which we need to leave before that anyway.
