Uh... Stigmata as plural of stigma is rare usage?  Try any dictionary to prove that, man.  Merriam, American, Oxford do not consider it rare.  I do not consider it rare.  Just because it has a Jesus connotation, Mr. Jesus Freak, does not mean that it is Jesus.

Hey -- crucifixion happened to other people, too!

Nader has run multiple times and, every time, he has been a motherfucking goddamned fucking shitheel embarrassment of what he could have been.  If anyone in this world has stigmata -- proper usage of the word OR Christ-like, it's goddamned Nader.

I did look it up and it's in half of the dictionaries I glanced at.  It's less rare than I thought.

Nader has run multiple times and, every time, he has been a motherfucking goddamned fucking shitheel embarrassment of what he could have been.  If anyone in this world has stigmata -- proper usage of the word OR Christ-like, it's goddamned Nader.

Regardless, Mr. Balls' usage disagrees with itself.

"Of course, with the embarrassments as a spoiler" -- no, wrong, means something ENTIRELY different than what I expect Tyson meant.

"Of course, with the label as a spoiler" or
"Of course, with the reputation as a spoiler"

not labels or reputations.  You see how it's expecting a singular?

I don't care about what Tyson said.  He's in his 20's and, thus, below us, Fajwat.  I took his meaning as the multiple of stigma, because that's a perfect word for what Nader has done to the hopes and dreams of a truly democratic (not capitalized, not the party) America.

Nader's shenanigans have set the hope of a third party back so far... I don't even know what to compare it to.  Fucking Perot was more constructive, and voting for him was like voting for Satan.

As to your pure language usage argument, even though Tyson corrected himself in this thread, I'd be willing to argue elsewhere.

I meant something along the lines of "his unwanted reputation which people have given to him against his wishes". Plus, my dictionary sez:

Stigma = A mark of disgrace associated with a particular circumstance, quality, or person

So that's kind of what I was aiming for.

Stigmata is a Christian version of the word (which I didn't know) that refers to Jesus' wounds from the crucifixion. My bad.

Taters, Nacho's kinda right about stigmata being the plural of stigma, but your rephrasing it as "reputation" reinforces my guess that you didn't intend to use a plural of stigma.

But Nacho, while grammatically in the clear, needs to step back on my homey Nader.

Yeah, I didn't intend a plural usage. Just what I mentioned in the post abov.

I can't feel my hand! Time to cut off my skin and make a silly hat.

Having any sort of pride or belief in nader is like following the court jester.

I hear the conspiracy "working for the Republicans" thing.  Here's my conspiracy -- he is working for someone specifically to continue the myth that a third party is not possible.  Historically, a third party is possible.  It's our own fault that we can't get behind one post Nixonized campaigning.  The homogenized campaign trail has been built to exclude third parties, but it's only about 40 years old.  Get a strong, intelligent person in there and it'll start to break.
