Well yes....but I think you understand what I'm saying.  While Atlantis isn't as good as it used to be or nearly as good as SG-1, but it could be worse.  I think we can all agree that the show seems directionless and needs a good kick in the ass to get better.

Sure it could be worse.  We could have episodes all about Teyla where she dances, sings, and worries about her subplot that was made inconsequential four years ago!  Oh, wait...

Looks like Season 5 will run straight through.  Use it as a lead in to Sanctuary.

Episode five -- Holy shit.  Talk about retconning.  How much of that episode was turned over to just sitting there and telling us everything that happened?  Almost desperately trying to convince us that "Oh, yeah, so the actress quit, I'm the new Weir!"

Shooting the crippled horse (and putting us out of our misery).

An official statement from MGM is still pending, but Gateworld is reporting that Stargate Atlantis will be brought to a close at the end of its fifth season.

Reportedly the season finale, "Enemy at the Gate", which is due to air in January 2009, will end on a cliffhanger. But, much like SG-1 before it, the story will be continued in a series of spin-off movies.

MGM have stated that they'll be releasing an official press release on Thursday regarding the cancellation - we'll bring you more news as we have it.

It's official.  Is it wrong that I am not that upset by this?

I've secretly been praying for it.  The show's been a train wreck since the second season, or whenever they re-established contact with Earth.  After that, it was Teyla episodes, bizarre cast changes, and tired SG1 enemies.

Talk about a wasted opportunity.

Let's just hope that they have learned their lesson and "Universe" is better.   I'm not hopefull though.

Another rough episode.  But compared to last week, it was actually okay...

But, man, the talent and potential of this show seems even more clear now that it's canceled.

It has plenty.  Except for Teyla, it has a great cast.  and the story was great at the start -- stuck in another galaxy, no way back to Earth, no supplies, no contact, and fucking everything up. And a superior enemy to deal with.

Of course, none of that has vene been used properly...

Sci-Fi on greenlighting Stargate: Universe:

Quote
"We've had great success with 'Enterprise' repeats on Monday night, and there's an appetite for space opera as 'Battlestar' goes away," Sci Fi president Dave Howe said. "There's an opportunity to keep the space opera as part of our programming strategy."

An appetite for Space Opera like Farscape and BSG!  Man, said Dave Howe, if only those shows were on Sci-Fi where this demand is driving our programming.  We'd never inexplicably cancel them to make room for low rent movies!
