Um...wait... Did anybody watch this? Because it's strangely addictive. And what a fucking thrill that they didn't change the intro.

Neat. So, anyway, it's a continuation of the original series, picking up in real time from where we left off (1991) and pulling a sort of Next Generation thing, following J.R. Ewing III and Christopher Ewing, now 30-somethings ready to fuck up 13 seasons worth of Texas aristocracy. Basically the same dynamic as J.R. and Bobby in the original. The old guard is still creeping around causing their own problems.
So I guess we'd all better gird ourselves for Cliffhanger Central! They've got to challenge Lost now... It's not as easy as it was when they were essentially pioneering the modern primetime cliffhanger back in the 80's (and weird TV -- one entire season was just a dream!). These are actually fascinating when spliced together... You can see the evolution of the Dallas cliffhanger:
Of course, this turned into a little war at the time with Dynasty, which copied the crazy cliffhanger format...and won the war with the famous Moldavian Massacre. Easily the greatest cliffhanger of 80's TV next to KITT getting creamed by Goliath. The Moldavian Massacre (below) is actually eight minutes of very good television. Probably the best shit to come out of the 80's... And, summer of 1985, it was all people talked about. Who died? (two minor characters) Who survived? (They all did.) The Moldavian Massacre blew the show's wad, though (probably because they pulled the punch in the next season), and Dynasty was cancelled a couple seasons later.
