So what you’re saying is the U.S. is just virtue signaling here.

Yep! Which also makes the "historic rise in gas prices" a little fishy to me (which isn't 100% accurate if you adjust for inflation and compare prices to the OPEC crisis in the 70s).

One thing I can say, though! Isn't it nice to see both sides of the aisle working together again? War is good! Especially if it lasts through November because, golly gee, you sure don't want to change horses in midstream, do ya?

The Dems are going to get slaughtered in November if things hold the way they have been, I think. The amount of people I personally know who are like, "TURN THE KEYSTONE PIPELINE BACK ON, JOE" is just ridiculous. Like... you guys realize that thing wasn't even operational when he shut it down, right? Americans are fucking dumb as shit.

I concur. I think a "red wave" is all but inevitable in November, particularly based on all the "Trump 2024" flags I see 'round these parts.

2024 is the scary one though. I can’t see a world where the Dems run a then almost 82 year old Joe Biden again. And we can only assume that this Russia situation is long term. I think we'll have a new President no matter what.

My 17cu ft freezer wasn't supposed to get here until May, but it got here a week ago. I don't know what it is, but the idea of having 6 months of food in my house before November calms me down a bit. Now with gas prices surging the way they are, everything feels even more precipitous and like... how long can we even trust the price of food/household items to hold? Are they set to go up like gas prices too?

If Joe can stave off WWIII and give us a hint of a shift down in terms of inflation and gas prices, showing he at least can exert some kind of influence on them both, then that may help their chances in November. Everything is so obstructed, though... just seems like the Republican's only play (and sole philosophy at this point) is obstruction of absolutely everything at all costs so that they can then say "Do nothing Democraps" in the run up to the election.

I put a deep freeze on my Amazon wishlist with sort of the same thinking: Get ready to hunker down this winter either because DC is on fire or a new strain is in town or both. Or...whatever the fuck the next disaster is going to be.

Yep... it's pretty great. We can just kind of slowly add to it, cook a bit extra to freeze with our meals, and by fall we'll have a bunch of stuff to live off of for months if need be.

I think we're going to have a real go at gardening this year too, so hopefully we'll have some produce to preserve as well.

One/Two news punch of Russians hitting a military compound 15 miles from Poland *and* asking China for weapons. Scary shit.

Great article in the Post the other day about how Putin is losing support from just about everybody who had previously supported him, including state run media. However, because he's all but obliterated any opposition, it's unlikely the country will move past him anytime soon.

Meanwhile, we've agreed to send tanks. So has Germany. I don't think the nukes are going to fly, but it's going to be real interesting to see how Putin reacts if his back is up against the wall with dwindling support for war with Ukraine.

And....we've woken up to his reaction, eh? More missiles.

I know it's a tragedy, but I've found this whole war so funny. Having grown up under the "OMG The Russians are coming!!!" culture it's amazing to watch how utterly hopeless and crazy they are in action. For 70 years we've feared these people then, when you peek in the window, you see them standing on a chair beating at a mouse with a broom.

My reaction has been very similar. Though I am shocked at just how incompetent the Russian military has been. It's like a Benny Hill sketch sometimes.
