Crazy Tony's Warehouse: The Fringe Candidates
« on: November 13, 2006, 03:06:57 PM »
Mike Gravel (Dem)

Quote
Gravel has said that, in addition to his stance on direct democracy (the National Initiative), he will also be emphasizing his support for the FairTax plan and withdrawal from the war in Iraq during his campaign.

Michael Charles Smith (Rep)

Quote
He formally announced his run for office on Saturday, May 20, 2006, at a fund-raising dance in Corvallis.”

A self-described "zealous moderate", he feels the Republican party has drifted too far to the right, and has spent too much energy on controversial issues such as abortion and same-sex marriage. His platform aims to cut party ties to the religious right, and return to what he considers traditional Republican values, such as small government, individual liberties, and fiscal conservatism. Smith supports major tax reform based on the ideals of simplicity, fairness, and freedom which he believes are embodied in the FairTax Act.

About the current state of the Republican Party, Smith has said: "I'm disillusioned and frustrated that most of the voices that seem to dominate the discussion in the party I'm aligned with in principle are on the far social and religious right, and I don't hear much at all from the party on fiscal issues or taxes. The party creed talks about smaller government and individual responsibility and liberties, but much of the activism from the social right seems to step on those principles.

We might see this take off as a major theme.  Not the first time I've heard the blame pointed at the religious non-fiscally-responsible right, with Bushie as their prime example of religious postures leading the Republican party astray.

I'm tired tonight and don't feel like being constructive, or really much of anything other than maybe finding the energy to play oblivion for 15 minutes until i pass out.

But.. what in those two links was i supposed to be interested in?

I'd asked you one in return.  Kat's not as pretty as my girl and I didn't find any text on the website about her, except after searching for her name and finding in small print that she'd written the site.  I think it's OK but could use professional help.

They'll try to fuck-up the Democrats, as per usual.

I mean really, America's a free market meritocracy, right?  Right, guys?!?!  Doesn't the open market fix everything?  Oh, wait, that's right, politics are heavily regulated.  And monopolized.

Yep: America's an oligarchy. The "democracy" thing is just the crap they spoon-feed you in high school because the education system wants you to fill in the bubbles correctly with a minimum of effort.

As my philosophy professor put it yesterday: "America is not an oligarchy because we don't have Presidents that are the sons of previous Presidents."

How do we fix it, guys?  Every oligarchy has been overthrown...and we've come close in recent history in 68 and 92.  Not the sort of wrenches that were good ones (Wallace and Perot), but proof that it can be done.
