Hey, so, are we not talking about Allen backing down and the Dems getting control of the Senate?

Alright...just two short years from now and we should have a Dem president.

Then the monolithic Democratic government can screw us like the monolithic Reps did...only different.

Wow, if Allen had been this level headed during the campaign, he might have won.

It's all the same, yes.  But blue's my favorite color.

And, admit it, Democratic presidents are funny.  Like funny ha-ha instead of funny oh...man.  I need another scotch over here.

We'll have some goober in who'll have some sort of goofball hobby and do strange things involving the general public, like go to department stores or Borders or Wendy's.  He'll make gaffes left and right, but they'll be charmingly pathetic.  He'll foster a sense of well being that will allow us to accept good things happening, whether or not he's actually responsible for them.  The fucking world will start breathing again and talking to us without screeching and throwing things around.  His little circle of highly trained intellectuals who actually run the country won't be lunatic hawks, which would be great if they weren't over-educated eggheads.

It'll be fine!

It's funny. I've already felt a profound sense of relief over the past two days. It's feel like the country I love has told me," Hey man, it's okay. We want everything to work out too." I've slept better. My wife and I have taken more time to just be with other. It's like the sun is starting to rise, which is fucked up because absolutely nothing has really changed.

This isn't to say that The Dems are going to save the world. They're not. They're not even going to come close. The point is that I feel like maybe we CAN embrace change. Maybe we can try to make things better. Maybe we are engaged and have the courage to speak our hearts and minds.

I'm sure this is overly idealistic, but it's a nice feeling, and I want to ride it out while it lasts.

No, I feel a small amount of what you do, RC.  And I'm cynical and hateful and only vote Democrat because it's the only party that'll win which is closest to my actual ideals -- Conservative socialist liberal nazi warmonger peacniks.

Oh, wait!  I really am a Democrat!

And another one we've forgotten to watch -- Arizona approving same sex marriage.  Though CNN has decided not to call it, it has a considerable win there.  The only measure of that type to make it.

And another thing I want to acknowledge which I note after every election. Our government is experiencing a shift in power right now, and there's no fighting in the streets. People aren't dying over who rules our country. (Well, at least not in America.) There's not even any protests.

That's an amazing thing, man.

Every two years, RC.  We're in a perpetual state of peaceful revolution.  And these aren't just "shifts."  Each election is a full-on change (or vote of confidence) for our government.  What we've seen now is a peaceful coup in our most important governmental branch.

It is amazing to have reached a point of civilization where such things are possible...and to be living there.  And it does sort of fire you up to hate people who fuck with us and want to defend the nation against people like Iran, South Korea, and Alabama.

There is no shift in power.  Nothing's changing.  The two parties are the same people with the same interests doing the same things for the same reasons.  Often, they even say the same things.  Occasionally they play a game of right hand giveth left hand taketh away, but it's all the same monopolistic beast.

There is no revolution today, and that's the overriding reason it's peaceful.

To a point, he's right. The Dems and GOP are both bought out by corporate interests, which have created laws that ensure "Their" representatives have tons of money to run for office.

But the system makes room for change. It still allows us to change leadership without violence. Still special.

Of course there's room for change.  Each party has the opportunity to adapt to voters' concerns, to evolve and improve itself in making distictions between themselves and the competition.  Oh, wait, there's only one competitor?  Every vote has become against the last party that fucked up.  This is a cartel, a duopoly, a monopoly with two heads.  There is no incentive for them to change -- that's the classic problem with monopolistic industries.  new competition gets shut out (ballot access, debate invites, advertising/fed/campaign dollars, "sure, go ahead and throw your vote away!") and the products offered become stagnant and homogenized.

Of course everything is written to "allow" change.  According to the constitution I could become a senator or president soon -- how likely is this?  The Republicans and Democrats take your votes for granted.  There is no reason for them to change.  That same system that "makes room for change" is being interpreted as blessing the shut-out of other parties and non-Dem/Rep views.
