I might be able to run one... it would be a task.  A better bet would be for me to get some kind of signal booster for the router so that it reaches down into my man cave.

Ok, so... inFamous.  Great game.  Well.... it's a good game, I guess I wouldn't go so far as to call it great.

First off, the story absolutely blows goats.  Even though it has these badass, comic-style cut sequences that are actually really fun to watch, I have no idea what is going on in the game.  I've taken as evil a path as is possible for me to take, but really I don't know what that means beyond poisoning people's water supply, visiting random violence on pedestrians and blowing up a police station.  The story is just... unimportant, really, and that's too bad because the game is REALLY fun to play.

Seriously, this game is FUN AS FUCK.  As you progress and provide more of the city with electricity, you start to unlock powers.  Also, it's got an XP system that lets you level up your powers to ridiculous levels.  So, much like GTA, that makes it fun to just run around the city, climb stuff and blow things up for hours with no purpose whatsoever.

So, for instance, you have a sort of "force push" kind of power that lets you shove things.  Initially, you just use it to shove bad guys off rooftops or push cars into old ladies because you have to be pretty close to objects to effect them... but if you power it up a couple of times, suddenly your push can send 2 or 3 cars cartwheeling down the street 60 or 70 feet, taking out an entire line of bad guys.

Almost all of the powers available to you can be upgraded in this way, so it makes for a real feeling of character progression... that your character is growing more and more evil (or good) and impossibly powerful.  Your appearance changes too.  My guy's skin is almost grey now with these nasty black veins running all over the place.

Even though it's a video game, there's something satisfying about leaping off a 45 story building, hammering down on the pavement and sending everything within a 20 foot radius flying in an electric explosion.... inFamous is full of visceral, stupid shit like this that makes it really fun to play.  I love shoving an angry mob of pedestrians and watching them go from angry to terrified in a split second.

So yeah, it's definitely not a perfect game.  A lot of the missions are really repetitive and the city is kind of amorphous and nondescript.  Compared to GTA 4, inFamous doesn't even hold a candle to it as far as city design is concerned.

But, for a first effort, inFamous is a lot of fun to play.  It makes me psyched for a sequel.  What they did get wrong were things that I feel are relatively unimportant to my enjoyment of the game.  It's a very satisfying open environment with a solid FPS feel when it comes to fighting, complete with grenades, rockets, sniping... the whole lot.  Plus, the scale of your superhero-ness is just awesome.  If you've got a PS3, definitely rent this game or wait for it to hit a bargain bin at the very least.  It's definitely worth checking out.

Sounds gay.
There will come a day for every man when he will relish the prospect of eating his own shit. That day has yet to come for me.

Okay, the NW needs a hobby because she's in Stressland and my only advice is that she get a retarded non-profit job, drink in the evenings, and watch downloaded TV.  It seems normal people don't work that way, so I'm thinking it's time to get her something where she can come home and kill things.

What's the best and cheapest path?  XBox?  PS3?  What sort of TV should I get?

Xbox is probably the cheapest path, besides... you can stream your Netflix account through it assuming you fork over the $50 a year for an Xbox Live account.

Of course, with PS3 you get Blu-Ray, so I guess you'll have to figure out which you'd prefer. Also, my buddy picked one up at Best Buy this weekend for $399 and it had an 80 gig hard drive.  With the PS3 you also get some cool plug-n-play features that are missing on the 360.  For instance, if you fill up the 80 gigs with arcade games or porn, you can actually buy a larger, laptop hard drive, back up all the files from your PS3 onto it and use that instead.  Mine came with an 80 gig drive but I have since transferred it to 320 gigs.

Really, it depends on how you're planning on using the console.  The difference in graphics quality between the PS3 and Xbox is negligible, so beyond that it's just figuring out which has the most titles you're interested in playing or if you'd rather stream Netflix or have a Blu-Ray player.

As for TV's, I'd say get something over 42 inches that has 1080p.  You can probably find something for around $1000.

Georgia just got through a tax free weekend (hellooooo, new laptop) and I believe the tax holiday included home theater purchases over $1000.  I have no idea if DC or its surrounding areas has anything even remotely similar, but if you're thinking about those kinds of purchases, it would be worth checking out.  You'll save yourself a bit of money.

Man, that is lame.  This one was a huge success for GA.  Going to Best Buy on Saturday to pick up my laptop was a nightmare.  I have never seen so many people crammed into the laptop section of a Best Buy.  The rest of the store wasn't crowded at all... just the 300 people scrambling to get laptops.

I'm a 360 man..get her that and Guitar Hero and all that.  That will keep her going for a long time.  Although after reading Nubbs impression of inFamous I'm almost tempted to shell out the money for a PS3.

I wouldn't... not for inFamous anyway.

Don't get me wrong.  I love my PS3 and I REALLY love the Blu-Ray player... I'd say I use that feature of it as much as anything else, really.  I also love the arcade titles I've gotten and the fact that the online aspects of it are free.  But in the end, unless you find one on sale for super cheap, I would pass on the PS3 and get a 360.  To me, the spots where the PS3 out does the 360 are not really ever worth the extra money you end up paying for it.

Now, if you're in the market for a Blu-Ray player like my co-worker was, the PS3 makes a lot of sense.  He bought one last weekend because they were at Best Buy looking at players and the PS3 was $399... well, the Blu-Ray players they were looking at were all $299.  So for $100 more, you get a Blu-Ray player that doubles as a video game console.

I don't know why Microsoft hasn't started bundling their 360's with Blu-Ray drives... I would think that if they did that, they'd destroy PS3 sales in the US permanently.

I see my future...and it's a tiny blonde sitting in the glow of Lego Batman every night until dawn.
