Women's Studies Conceptual Art

Here's a little sneak peek as the conceptual art I've commissioned for Women's Studies. We'll go public with these and other images in a few weeks, but I'm giving Lady Killers (and you guys) an early look.

First up, our psycho academy girls, Judith, Diane, and Melissa, have the father of their new friend, Iris, primed for slaughter. Iris now has to make a horrible choice.




Next, our heroine, Mary, is confronted by the psycho academy girls after making a gruesome discovery.

So the graphic novel companion book is coming out with the movie, right?

What role does concept art play in making a movie?

What role does concept art play in making a movie?

The idea behind concept art is two-fold.

First off, some of your money types may not be visually minded, so conceptual pieces are there to give these folks an idea of what a scene might look like. George Lucas helped sell Star Wars to 20th Century Fox this way.

Secondly, it gives designers a starting point for costumes, scenery, hair and make-up, etc. The final look of these things may deviate wildly from the initial concept art, or it may be almost exactly like it. Depends on the designer and director.

This is the "initiation scene" in which Iris joins the academy girls. This scene springboards into the climax of the film.

Here's the last two conceptual art pieces for Women's Studies.


First, the "Strip Club Massacre." This scene serves as the prologue for the entire film.




And finally, "Duel of the Goddesses," Mary and Judith's big Battle Royale near the end of the movie.

have you and the artist considered releasing a graphic novel first?  I used to know a bunch of underemployed comic book artists.  I'm sure I could still get in touch with a dozen or so in DC/College Park.

Nobody reads anything I write.

I read what you write Nacho. It's a great idea.

Will we do it? Right now it's not in the marketing plan, though since I have experience in the comic book world, it wouldn't be hard to set in motion. I'd have to farm it out to a different writer of course, simply by virtue that I'm waist deep in the film aspect of the story.
