And, yes, I liked Blair Witch too.  I had to go to the one theater in DC showing it before it went into OMG BLAIR WITCH!! status.  It was just spellbinding.
...
Love the GS blog update, though.  Tyson, Cass... Gosh, someday we'll all be there.  "And thanks to Nacho, who I caught stealing Cindy's push-up bra..."

That was Outer Circle?  I saw it there early on, possibly just after the second wind.  My synopsis at the time: bunch of kids freaked themselves out, freaked each other out, and ran around a lot.  Not my kind of movie.

Wait, RC made Cindy get a push-up bra?  I feel diminished and sullied.

Summation of that section of RC's article:  "I wanted to make a movie poster.  My wife said she'd do it.  I turned to her and drunkenly slurred: 'You ain't no Julie Strain!' She moved in with her parents for a month and I lost the house."

And Cindy still hasn't read the blog this morning. (Yikes!)

Re: Blair Witch . . . maybe "dogturd" is a bit harsh, but it certainly doesn't hold up on repeat viewings. Plus, if it hadn't have been hyped to hell and back, would I have let myself be scared even that first time? It was a hell of a good concept, that much is clear.

I will say this about Blair Witch, it will interesting to see how generations who weren't a live when it was released discover that movie in the future. If most find it urban legend style, the movie can be considered nothing but a success.

urban legend as in, "people enjoyed this movie" kind of legend?

No, urban legend as in "it really happened" kind of urban legend.

Of course the fact that it's in Blockbuster might be a clue. Then again, if you bring over a burnt copy . . . like in The Ring . . .

For the record, I am able to rewatch Blair Witch and recapture what I felt when I first watched it.  But, as I said, I have a Heather Donahue thing going.  And local lore, as well.  Burkittsville remains a neat place... Especially if you go up old US 40 and then cut over towards it using back roads from the Reno Monument area.  The entire ride is this forlorn Stephen King sort of thing.  And, with the movie in mind, you can go tromp around in the woods.

Also, there's a Gravity Hill there.  They call it Spook Hill, just out on Gapland Rd.  Supposedly Union soldiers forever cursed to push a cannon up the hill, and they'll do the same for your car.  Gravity hills tend to be just as much pish-posh, but Spook Hill is fun.

In terms of hating Blair Witch, I will say that it ruined the joy of the little-known Spook Hill.  I've never seen a movie piss off a town as bad as that one did.  Those retarded hillbillies can't take a joke.  So now you can't go sit at Spook Hill without some yokel storming out at you.  Shame, as most gravity hills are either commercialized or tough to work around in terms of traffic and locals.

Glad to see Maryland's own isn't on there.  Still a secret.  And ignore that Florida Spook Hill!  It's a drug dealer paradise.  But a fun sort of "commercialized" attraction:

From www.roadsideamerica.com:

Quote
Spook Hill is not an "attraction" per se -- there is no admission fee - it is just there. It is well marked and is the pride of Lake Wales, FL. I was last there in May 1997. . You park your car at the bottom of a hill and take off the parking brake and your car rolls up hill. There is a large sign on the side of the road telling you how to experience it.

And I see that Burkittsville is on the RA site as well.  Good for them.

You can do a search on there, Reggie.  Better info than what Wikipedia will give you.  The roadside America tip tree is a great way to plumb the depths of weird Americana.

I feel like I brought that back to the surface again with my post elsewhere.   Sorry I missed the June thread elsewhere.

Actually, it's funny. I had planned since last week to cover these articles in this week's blog. It just so happened that the subject became timely again.

No worries.
