DC's rebooting their entire line this summer to better part us from our money.

nacho:
I've been reading the Tor reviews of the DC Universe reboot issue ones, which start rolling out at the end of August. I had this idea that I could be a "modern age" comic fan and start reading all these antique characters as if they were just starting out...which is kinda sorta the point of the reboot.

Sadly, though, Tor has been methodically tearing each one apart. Not out of some loyalty to the past several decades and continuity, but in that the characters and stories have been cleaned up. Good lowest common denominator family fun. Nothing dark, nothing questionable. Bland nonsense meant for the masses.

It's turned me off what I figured would be a grand autumn project (since I've turned my back on 50% of the shows I've been watching).

Cassander:
Man.  It's a real shame that an attention grabbing ploy directed at 14 year olds didn't take with you.

I need to just send you a thumb drive full of comic sweetness.

nacho:
Like you've been promising for the last two years, hooker?

Cassander:
Oh, okay, so I finally read the little blurbs about each one.  Not any reviews, just the synopses...A few DO pique my interest....

Not a lot of info here, but a reboot of this long-wayward major Batman title is necessary.  If not now, at some point in the future.

Not expecting a lot out of a war comic from DC (versus Vertigo), but giving Sgt. Rock new life is an interesting idea.

On sale SEPTEMBER 7 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T+

One of the world’s most iconic characters has returned to the heart of the DC Universe, and every step he takes will shake the foundations of the Earth! Alec Holland has his life back…but the Green has plans for it. A monstrous evil is rising in the desert, and it’ll take a monster of another kind to defend life as we know it!

Not sure when the last time they tried to do something new with Swamp Thing was.  This could just be a re-introduction for the inevitable movie four years from now, or a real new lease on the character.  I'll at least give the first ish a try.

On sale SEPTEMBER 14 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T+

They’re a team of death-row super villains recruited by the government to take on missions so dangerous – they’re sheer suicide! Harley Quinn! Deadshot! King Shark! Defeated and imprisoned, they’re being interrogated about their mission – and about who’s pulling the strings behind this illegal operation. Who will be the first to crack under the pressure?

I know the payoff won't be anywhere as near as exciting as that premise sounds, but it does have me salivating just a little bit.

Greg Capullo drawing Batman?  That news alone got my motor running.

On sale SEPTEMBER 21 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T

The Gods walk among us. To them, our lives are playthings. Only one woman would dare to protect humanity from the wrath of such strange and powerful forces. But is she one of us – or one of them?

--- End quote ---
Truth be told, I've never been interested in Wonder Woman at all.  But I put this here because a)Brian Azarello writes and b) seems to be more of a focus on her Olympian-ness, not as a chaser of bank robbers.  Probably a good move.
