I've been meaning to sign up for Carbonite for months now, but well... I'm dumb!

Also, Mac fags, drop $70, get a 500gb external drive, and use Time Machine if you haven't already. It's so magical. You never notice it running and you always have granular backups. Hourly backups for the past few days or something, daily backups for a week, and weekly backups for as much space as you have on the hard drive. Plus, when you buy a new computer, you just plug it in to the new computer and restore from Time Machine and boom -- it's 100% up and running just like it was 30 minutes ago.

Time Machine rocks.
There will come a day for every man when he will relish the prospect of eating his own shit. That day has yet to come for me.

Fixed!

Corrupt Start-up files. I asked if it was a virus and was told that while it could have been, it also could have been any other number of things.

So then I'll get Carbonite and use this thing until it burns up!

And crashed again after I installed new anti-virus software. Once again, windows is corrpted and won't start up. Off to spend another $75 at the repair shop.

I need to get at least another six months out of this beast. A new machine is not in the financial cards.

It's a hardware issue. I guarantee it.

Okay Mac users...I just jumped into the boat and bought a fancy new iMac.  A quick question...for the watching stuff from Nacho's no no spot, do I need to add VLC or something?  This is probably self explanatory but I literally have just been able to turn it on and move my iTunes stuff over, and haven't had much time to play with it.

We've quietly exterminated all GS Mac users. Monkey's only survived because he's Jason Bourne.

VLC is all you need.

That, and the standard web-plug ins for browser media.

So.....

I got a new PC last fall that's worked amazingly insofar. Last night I shut it down and went to bed and I when I rebooted it this morning, I had a brand new computer! As in all the documents and most of the programs I had installed or created in the past ten monts were gone, and the computer hadn't been used before. There was some cryptic Windows 7 message about how I was in a temporary profile and any files I created would be deleted at the end of my session. My computer repair friend is coming by tomorrow, but my hopes are low.

This comes on the heels of losing the external hard drive which had *everything* from the past decade on it. So now I pretty much start from ground zero.

Meanwhile, I was forced to buy a MacBook Pro for school and other than learning the Mac OS after a twenty year Windows habit, it does everything I want but blow me.

Ah, yes. The Windows 7 Temporary Profile! Been struggling with this here ith the new guy.

Usually fixes itself after a few restarts.

Then do this insane bullshit if restarting it doesn't work:
http://www.sysprobs.com/fix-temporary-profile-windows-7

Then back everything up, format your harddrive, and install XP.

(Also -- your stuff is still there, not lost.)
