This is my last post from my ancient Dell running Windows ME. My webguy is on his way over with my costom built, Windows XP Pro running, 1 gig RAM having, kick ass new system, with all sorts of bells and whistles. (Including Final Draft)

It's a whole new digital world for RC!

At what point should I think about a new machine. I'm blue-screening of death, but I think it's fixable. Still, this machine has been in the shop a lot over the past two years.

In my experience, a computer isn't worth the expense of sending it to the shop repeatedly.  I always sort of bank on a computer's lifespan being about 5 years, then it's time to upgrade.

Find copies of your essential programs, format your hard drive and re-install everything.  It's a bitch and it takes forever, but your computer will run like new.  I do that at least a few times before finally giving up on everything... my computers usually run until the hard drive collapses in on itself.

And get yourself backed up.  I use Mozy.com.  It's pretty cheap and it's online so you don't have to worry about your computer/house blowing up.
