Film Festivals (for RC's flic')
« on: May 23, 2005, 03:07:55 PM »
I made a movie: http://www.firstsessionmovie.com

I've been working on my festival schedule for a while now, but now that the film is done, I've kicked that work into high gear. As of now, I have over thirty festivals lined up to submit to over the next year. I'm expecting to double that number in the final tally.

A couple of weeks ago, Jody commented that I should apply to a Colorado fest near her. (Not Telluride, which is on my list by the way.) I'm going to try to apply to fests where GS folks can swing by and see it. Atlanta is on the list for Nubbins. Yotoc and Blue will get the Ohio fest. (Also Blue, there'll be a screening at ye olde WV alma mater come November.) I've a bunch of California fests I'm applying too, so Tyson and Queenie should both get a shot. Cass, I know I'm doing NC, but the exact fest(s) are up in the air though Charlotte is probably a lock. "Hellboy" Matt, you're way the fuck up in Minnesota right?

The point is that I'll happily take suggestions for film festivals to apply to from you folks. They don't necessarily have to be near you, though I'd love to give you guys the chance to see the film. Web links would be a big help, as it cuts down my search time a bit.

If you're uncomfortable mentioning publicly where you live, drop me a PM. I'm trying to get thing in as many festivals as possible over the next year, so any help you want to give is great.

Dude, this is so cool!  I will happily make it out to see your movie when it's here in Atlanta!

We have kickin' rad film fests too... I think there's an animation one as well?  not sure.

Keep in mind that just because I apply to a festival doesn't mean the film will get into it.

Don't forget your promise to go to Edinburgh so I can hold you.

Well Nubbins, Dragon*Con gave me ye olde rejection email this morning, so the Phatlanta trip looks to be out of the running. I know we have one in Savannah we applied to, and I think there may be another Alanta Film Fest on teh books, but I'd have to check.

For those of you keeping score at home, Team RC is 0-2 on the film festival entries. Of course we've sent to around thirty so far with another twenty on the books.

So, I got rejected by the New Orleans Film Festival today. I'm trying to decide if I should feel bad about this. I mean, half the city still has no power, right?

Yeah, plus three quarters of the population there now needs a therapist.  Probably they figure you aren't going to be helping matters.

It's because you're not 'with' the programme.

If you know what I mean, and I think that you do.

Sundance announces it's short film line-up on Monday. I'm figuring that a week out, they probably would have notified me if I got in. Plus, it's friggin' Sundance.

I've tuned out of festival entries with all the work I've been doing on the new project, but a fresh new round of rejections comes in December. I'll keep ya'll posted. Also, info on the new project will be coming soon.

Aren't you glad I used "ya'll?"

So, spring festival season will soon be upon me. I've gotten a steady stream of rejection lettrers thorugh the fall and holiday seasons.

I've decided that I'll pretty much go through my cycle only entering local festivals that come my way. Then maybe I'll do some internet festivals before selling downloads from here and my First Session site.

I still haven't managed to see or get a copy of First Session.  I realize it's my own fault but I will keep whining periodically.  In the meantime, some smart ass grammatical complaints:

"announces its thing" -- its is posessive.  there is no contraction.
"y'all" -- contraction of you and all.  The apotrophe replaces the dropped letters.

"its" and "it's" have always thrown me.

Nacho is the Pirate King, so ask him about First Session. Also, there will hopefully be at least one DC area screening this spring, depending on if I get the film entered. I let the deadline for the DC Independent Film Festival slip by me because I often lose touch with reality and entire weeks disappear.

Oh, and we've re-color-corrected the film too. It looks ten times better now.
